...Let's assume somebody wanted to develop
the ultimate funding system, what would work?
...
(PERSONAL opinion follows, and the idea isn't even original with me!)
I think the ultimate system for funding e-gold accounts with grams would be
if first one and then many of the vendors of telephone long distance minutes
started to "get" the simple-seeming-to-us idea that they are in a 24/7-365
worldwide exchange marketplace, and that they can get away with treating
minutes a lot more like a currency; with beneficial results both for them and
for their customers (and for us, obviously). Don't underestimate how big a
bite of clue this would be for them, these are pretty conservative folks and
the vast majority probably have not thought about their product that way...
I am a bit frustrated with the idea that over a year after e-gold mobile phone
spends (see: http://pcs.e-gold.com/demo.html for demo) no telco seems to
fully get it just yet, but that could change any time. It would be great to get a
major telco, and if you've ever tried "the wireless web" you know that e-gold
spends are about the most (read: "only") interesting thing you can do. The
ideal thing about telcos is that (almost) everyone already deals with them on
a regular basis, and they're slowly beginning to understand that mail costs
them a fortune (not to mention processing small paper checks). As if the act
of paying a phone bill WITH the phone weren't cool enough! And I haven't
even mentioned selling prepaid phonecards (which are JUST CODES! Why
not undercut the prices of the old-fashioned competition still stamping out
plastic?).
I think there are major opportunities for early-adopter telcos and musicians,
and in between cool things like 2cw.org and anticipating Vince's chess site
I'm pretty happy these days about prospects, mainly thanks to all the do-ers
out there who keep impressing me with your talents. Thanks, folks.
