[e-gold-list] Ultimate funding system

2001-02-03 Thread James M. Ray

...Let's assume somebody wanted to develop
 the ultimate funding system, what would work?

...

(PERSONAL opinion follows, and the idea isn't even original with me!)

I think the ultimate system for funding e-gold accounts with grams would be
if first one and then many of the vendors of telephone long distance minutes
started to "get" the simple-seeming-to-us idea that they are in a 24/7-365
worldwide exchange marketplace, and that they can get away with treating
minutes a lot more like a currency; with beneficial results both for them and
for their customers (and for us, obviously). Don't underestimate how big a
bite of clue this would be for them, these are pretty conservative folks and
the vast majority probably have not thought about their product that way...

I am a bit frustrated with the idea that over a year after e-gold mobile phone
spends (see: http://pcs.e-gold.com/demo.html for demo) no telco seems to
fully get it just yet, but that could change any time. It would be great to get a
major telco, and if you've ever tried "the wireless web" you know that e-gold
spends are about the most (read: "only") interesting thing you can do. The
ideal thing about telcos is that (almost) everyone already deals with them on
a regular basis, and they're slowly beginning to understand that mail costs
them a fortune (not to mention processing small paper checks). As if the act
of paying a phone bill WITH the phone weren't cool enough! And I haven't
even mentioned selling prepaid phonecards (which are JUST CODES! Why
not undercut the prices of the old-fashioned competition still stamping out
plastic?).

I think there are major opportunities for early-adopter telcos and musicians,
and in between cool things like 2cw.org and anticipating Vince's chess site
I'm pretty happy these days about prospects, mainly thanks to all the do-ers
out there who keep impressing me with your talents. Thanks, folks.

[e-gold-list] ultimate ?

2001-02-01 Thread jpm

What are your thoughts? Think outside the box. We are talking
about the ultimate system.

George

The ultimate system would be retailers on the street, who will take
cash (or, subject to the usual delays/costs, credit cards and
cheques) for e-gold.

You know all those god damn cellphone hole-in-the-wall mini-retailers
for instance? Those boys could sell e-gold as a sideline. Or the
foreign exchange hole-in-the-wall retailers (not seen in the US).

Or indeed I suppose just banks. The ultimate would be if you could
go into Wells Fargo and say "I'd like to buy 500 of e-gold today" and
they'd just move the money around and sell you e-gold, or you could
give them cash and they would.

Or post offices - Giros.

The ultimate-ultimate system would be if egold was so popular that
almost all banks were integrated with it -- that is, you could stop
at your ATM and press a button and buy egold with cash.

ATM Menu of the Future:
* get cash
* account statement
* buy e-gold
* transfer money

Wouldn't that be good?
