Description: One M.S. assistantship is available in contraception management and feral horse behavior/physiology, starting in fall of 2016 in the Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management at Iowa State University. This project focuses on the impacts of contraception management on the behavior and physiology of feral horses. The project will require field and possibly lab work, ranging from behavioral sampling to performing enzyme immunoassays for steroid hormone metabolites in fecal samples. Field work is physically demanding and requires camping on a barrier island and hiking for extended periods in extreme heat. Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications include a B.S. degree in biology, ecology, wildlife, or related field, GPA >3.0, and GRE scores at or above the 50th percentile on each of the three test components. Desired qualifications include excellent writing abilities, strong quantitative skills, camping and/or field experience. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Stipend and Other Information: Stipend is approximately $22,000 per year. The student will receive health insurance and a waiver of 50% of graduate tuition.
