The 15th Annual Ecology and Evolution of Infectious Disease meeting will be 
held at the University of 
California, Santa Barbara on June 24-27, 2017.

If you are interested in being considered for one of the regular (15 minutes) 
talks at this year's EEID

[ECOLOG-L] Postdoc in Ecological Modeling at UCSB: Amphibian/chytrid fungus, host/pathogen dynamics

We are searching for a creative postdoctoral researcher with experience in
mathematical and/or statistical modeling to work on an NSF-funded Ecology of
Infectious Disease Program project entitled: “After the crash: factors
allowing host persistence following outbreaks of a highly virulent disease”.
 This project is investigating the impacts of the recently emerged chytrid
fungal pathogen, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, on amphibian populations. 
We are primarily concentrating on the Sierra Nevada and southern
yellow-legged frogs (Rana muscosa and R. sierrae) in California, for which
extensive experimental and long-term population data are available.  We are
looking for a postdoctoral researcher with strong mathematical or
statistical modeling skills to help develop and parameterize models aimed at
understanding the impacts of this pathogen, including effects of host
diversity, behavior, age, and/or spatial structure.  Excellent writing
skills are required. The project involves a large interdisciplinary group of
researchers, and there will be many opportunities for collaboration, and to
become involved in lab and/or field work if desired.  The postdoc will be in
the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology

We will be hiring a career, full-time Staff Research Associate II to 
assist with our project studying the interaction between the amphibian 
chytrid fungal pathogen and mountain yellow-legged frogs. We are looking 
for someone to help with the laboratory, data management, and animal 
care portions of the project.  Excellent organizational skills, and 
experience with laboratory techniques, such as PCR and real-time PCR, 
are the most important requirements for this position.


The job will be located off campus at the Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research 
Lab (SNARL) in the eastern Sierra near Mammoth Lakes during the summer 
months, and on the UCSB campus during the rest of the year.  Housing 
will be provided at SNARL during the summer.

The Theoretical Ecology Section of the ESA will award the Eighth Annual
Alfred J. Lotka and Vito Volterra prizes for the best presentations given by
students during this year's annual meeting. The award is open to
undergraduate and graduate students who, as sole or first author, present a
talk or poster at the ESA annual meeting on original research in theoretical
ecology. All suitable approaches that yield theoretical insight to
ecological phenomena will be considered.  Prizes will be awarded on the
