Description The Biology Department at Colorado State University - Pueblo is hiring for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Wildlife and Natural Resources. We are particularly interested in individuals with policy, management, or human dimensions experience, and/or with an aquatic emphasis. The Biology Program provides the biological component of the liberal arts education. We promote student understanding of biological concepts relevant to the individual and society, and foster an appreciation of scientific inquiry. Biology is an integral subject for other majors' requirements and the Biology department is committed to fulfilling these service courses and general education for other departments. Our students obtain a broad education, covering a wide variety of biological disciplines. We focus on the student, facilitating hands-on experience, interactions with faculty, and opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate research in topics of regional interest. The Department of Biology currently has nine full time, tenure-track faculty, and graduates about 45 biology majors annually. We have added a new major in Wildlife and Natural Resources with two emphasis areas: terrestrial and aquatic. The department resides within the College of Science and Mathematics, which also houses the Department of Physics/ Mathematics and the Department of Chemistry. This tenure track, nine month (with summer teaching possibly available) position provides teaching, scholarship and advising/service to the biology department, with the ability to teach majors or non-majors in biology and wildlife, introductory courses, plus upper division electives in a specialty area. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Earned doctoral degree in wildlife, biology, or a related field Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in university level biology and/or wildlife courses Preferred Qualifications Ability to teach majors in Principles of Wildlife Management, Natural Resource Policy and Administration, and/or Human Dimensions in Natural Resource Management Other potential courses may include Ichthyology, Limnology, Freshwater Invertebrate Zoology, and/or other courses in the applicant's area of expertise. Ability to develop externally funded research programs that will involve students - especially in Aquatic Systems or Fisheries Science Relevant post-doctoral or agency experience Demonstrated commitment and ability to motivate, educate and mentor students from a range of cultural and educational backgrounds similar to that of Colorado State University - Pueblo, in major's courses and service courses in the biology department All interested candidates must apply through the on-line application system. Hello Ecolog, I am trying to get a hold of some DOLT-3 or DOLT-4, a standard reference material for heavy metals in organic tissue produced by the National Research Council Canada. They have been working on a new formulation (DOLT-5), and have been out of stock for about a year. [ECOLOG-L] Behavioral Ecotoxicology Technician
Professors Dan Cristol and John Swaddle of the Department of Biology at the College of William & Mary seek applications for a research technician position in Behavioral Ecotoxicology of birds. The position is open to candidates possessing a relevant life sciences degree or equivalent experience, and a sincere interest in the behavioral ecological effects of mercury contamination in songbirds. We are looking for someone with experience in captive wildlife handling and basic lab work and protocols; and with strong communication and organizational skills. The position is open for an initial one-year period (with the expected renewal for an additional two years) and offers competitive salary and benefits. The successful candidate will join a dynamic behavioral ornithology group and assist in the smooth running of a mercury dosing experiment on Zebra Finches to examine behavioral and physiological consequences of long-term, low-level mercury contamination. Major duties include making food and verifying dose levels, assisting PIs and students with research, and assisting with animal care. Attention to detail and meticulous record keeping are necessary. If desired, the successful applicant may conduct research within the larger project in preparation for continuing their own education.
