[ECOLOG-L] MS and PhD opportunities in Global Change Ecology

2015-11-11 Thread Henry Adams
Multiple opportunities for graduate study in global change ecology of
plants and trees are available in the Department of Botany, Oklahoma
State University for Fall 2016.

Research and teaching assistantships are available for study towards an
MS in Plant Biology or a PhD in Plant Science. Potential areas of
research could include (but are not limited to):

• Plant phenological responses to heat and drought
• Physiological ecology of drought- and bark beetle-induced tree
mortality
• Shifting tree-ring growth and climate relationships
• Climate change ecology of the eastern prairie-forest ecotone
• Interactive influences of drought and fire in vegetation
response to climate change
• Management of eastern redcedar expansion in the central US.

Research approaches could include observational studies, manipulative
experiments in growth chambers, greenhouse, and/or field settings, and
data synthesis performed at sites in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and nearby
areas of the southwest and south-central US. These assistantships
include tuition waivers and health insurance.

Contact Dr. Henry Adams, henry.ad...@okstate.edu, for more information.

In your email, please include brief description of your research
interests, experience, and career goals, and attach a CV or resume.

Applications are due to the graduate college by 1/31/16, but early
application is strongly advised for full consideration of acceptance and
support.

[ECOLOG-L] PhD research assistantship: Tree Drought Ecophysiology and Defense

2018-09-11 Thread Henry Adams
Hello,

A 3-year research assistantship is available to study the role of non-
structural carbohydrates in tree drought stress and defenses against
bark beetle attack in the Environmental Ecology Lab
(www.henrydadams.com) in the Dept. of Plant Biology, Ecology, and
Evolution (http://plantbio.okstate.edu) at Oklahoma State University.
Collaborate with a team of researchers from Oklahoma State University,
Montana State University, and the University of New Mexico to understand
the links among drought, tree physiological stress, and chemical
defenses against bark beetles. Work on pinyon pine in the field at
Sevilleta, NM, where we are installing a new drought experiment. More
info on the overall project is here:
http://www.henrydadams.com/research.html

The PhD student will lead physiology data collection and analysis,
including measurement of non-structural carbohydrate concentrations.
The assistantship will include training in all methods used by the
project team, including visits to collaborating labs in Montana and New
Mexico to learn additional techniques. Additional dissertation research
could include experimentation, and data synthesis on drought-induced
tree mortality and tree physiological responses to pests and pathogens,
depending on the interests of the student. Funding after the third year
is available through teaching assistantships. For full consideration,
plan to submit your application by 10/31/2018, however later
applications may be considered. This position is available for a start
date as early as January 2019. Contact Dr. Henry Adams,
henry.ad...@okstate.edu, for more information. In your email, please
include brief description of your research interests, experience, and
career goals, and attach a CV or resume. More info on the position can
be found here: http://www.henrydadams.com/join_us.html

Thanks,

[ECOLOG-L] Asst. Professor sought in plant secondary metabolism

2018-09-18 Thread Henry Adams
Plant Biology: The Department of Plant Biology, Ecology, and Evolution
(http://plantbio.okstate.edu/) at Oklahoma State University in
Stillwater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August
2019. The ideal candidate will address fundamental questions in biology
with research interests in plant secondary metabolism (broadly defined),
including specialties such as biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology,
and/or ethnobotany of plant secondary metabolites, or other related
fields. The position will complement departmental strengths in cell and
molecular biology, genetics, evolutionary biology, and ecology, and help
support the newly created pre-pharmacy and pre-forensics options in the
plant biology major. The successful candidate is expected to build an
innovative, externally-funded research program, and contribute to
undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring. A Ph.D. in plant
biology or related fields is required; postdoctoral experience is
expected. All applications should be submitted online through
http://apply.interfolio.com/54165. Include 1) cover letter, 2) CV, 3)
statements of research accomplishments and future objectives, 4)
teaching philosophy and goals, and 5) at least three letters of
recommendation, to be uploaded through Interfolio. Review of
applications will begin November 1 and continue until position is
filled, contingent upon availability of funding. Contact information:
