[ECOLOG-L] Graduate student opportunity in Ecosystem Ecology at Miami University
Graduate student opportunity in Ecosystem Ecology at Miami University The Fisk lab (http://www.units.miamioh.edu/melanyfisklab/index.html) at Miami University invites applications to the PhD program in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (EEEB) or to the Masters program in Biology. Our lab investigates forest ecosystem questions in the areas of biogeochemistry, plant-soil interactions, and soil ecology. Funding is available to contribute to a project at the Hubbard Brook and Bartlett Experimental Forests examining nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics in northern hardwood forests (https://hubbardbrook.org/people/melany-fisk). This project aims to better understand limitations to forest productivity and stoichiometric controls of nutrient recycling. It is a collaboration among scientists from multiple universities and offers the opportunity to interact with students and faculty of wide-ranging interests in ecology. Interested applicants should send email to Melany Fisk (fis...@miamioh.edu) with a CV and brief statement of research interests.

We seek candidates who examine consequences of global environmental change at molecular, physiological, community, or ecosystem levels. We are especially interested in candidates who will complement our departmental strengths in physiology, ecology, evolution, and conservation biology, as well as interdepartmental strengths in environmental science. The successful candidate will teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, maintain an active research program, and provide service to the institution. Teaching may include introductory biology for majors, environmental biology for non-majors, global change biology, ecology, and advanced courses in the individual's area of specialty. Required: Ph.D. in biology, ecology, or a related field. Consideration will be given to candidates with postdoctoral experience, and demonstrated commitment to developing an externally funded research program and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Biology (http://www.miamioh.edu/biology) has over 40 faculty with excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and research. The department offers bachelors, masters, and PhD degrees in the biological sciences, as well as multidisciplinary, interdepartmental graduate degree programs in cell, molecular, and structural biology (http://miamioh.edu/cmsb) and ecology, evolution and environmental biology (http://miamioh.edu/eeeb). Research and teaching are supported by outstanding core facilities, including the Willard Sherman Turrell Herbarium, the Center for Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics, the Center for Advanced Microscopy and Imaging, the Ecology Research Center, and a Laboratory Animal Resources Center. Miami is a top-ranked public university for its commitment to excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education. [ECOLOG-L] graduate student opportunities
PhD positions are available in the Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology program (http://www.cas.muohio.edu/eeeb/) at Miami University, Oxford, OH, for students interested in soil microbial ecology and biogeochemistry. Students would join collaborative NSF-funded research projects studying either winter climate change or nutrient colimitation in northern hardwood forest ecosystems at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, New Hampshire, USA. Possible research areas include plant- microbe mechanisms of nutrient acquisition; biogeochemical feedbacks to soil calcium depletion, nitrogen enrichment and/or phosphorus limitation; and wintertime microbial dynamics and organic matter processing in relation to the timing and depth of snowpack.
