The Department of Biology at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites 
applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant 
Professor anticipated to begin in August 2016. We seek a Behavioral 
Ecologist with an innovative research program guided by fundamental 
questions in evolutionary biology. Researchers that employ a combination of 
empirical and theoretical approaches, and that utilize cutting-edge 
methodological and analytical tools are especially encouraged to apply, 
regardless of animal taxon or ecosystem.

The successful candidate will be expected to complement departmental 
research strengths in organismal biology and conservation biology, and will 
contribute to teaching and mentoring students in our graduate and 
undergraduate programs (see http://biology.cos.ucf.edu).

field, a strong publication record, and show a demonstrated ability or 
strong potential to maintain a vigorous, extramurally-funded research 
program.

Archbold Biological Station (ABS), through its Division, the MacArthur
Agro-ecology Research Center (MAERC), is seeking a temporary Field
Coordinator for the Florida Ranchlands Environmental Services Project
(FRESP), which is being implemented by a partnership that includes the World
Wildlife Fund, cattle ranchers, USDA-NRCS, the Florida Dept. of Agriculture
and Consumer Services, and the South Florida Water Management District.  The
Field Coordinator will work with the project’s other Field Coordinator to
help monitor the environmental performance of water management alternatives
being put into practice on eight different cattle ranches in the Lake
Okeechobee watershed of the Northern Everglades.  The duties of the position
will be to help maintain and operate hydrologic field instrumentation,
collect and process water samples, download data on site and remotely, and
help manage the project data and database.  Qualifications include
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agricultural or hydrology, environmental
engineering, environmental science, or related field.  Experience with field
instrumentation, database management, water sampling, and/or knowledge of
agricultural water management a plus.  Position requires excellent technical
and data management skills, good written and oral communication skills, and
interpersonal skills needed for working as part of a diverse
interdisciplinary team.  The position is located at MAERC, a 10,500-acre

Assistant Research Biologist and Director
Applications are invited for an Assistant Research Biologist and MAERC 
Director (one position) reporting to the Executive Director of Archbold 
Biological Station. As Assistant Research Biologist you will be expected to 
maintain and enhance the established agro-ecology research program, 
encompassing wetland ecology, ecosystem services, and biodiversity. 
Research facilities are located at MAERC and nearby Archbold Biological 
Station.  As Director you will administer MAERC research and coordinate 
interdisciplinary research projects with outside investigators, supervise 
research staff, participate in outreach activities, and coordinate closely 
with the Ranch Manager to integrate research, agricultural operations, 
Ranch financial decisions, and environmental stewardship. 
 
You will have a Ph.D. and Postdoctoral or other experience, plus 
demonstrated ability to seek extramural funding. You will be an individual 
who is enthusiastic about living and conducting ecological research at a 
working ranch, and able to work with agricultural scientists, regulatory 
agencies, environmental organizations, and cattle ranchers. 

10-month salary at the Assistant Professor level commensurate with

We seek a highly motivated Research Assistant to work under the 
supervision of Dr. Patrick Bohlen at the MacArthur Agro-ecology Research 
Center a Division of Archbold Biological Station and is located at a 
10,500-acre commercial cattle ranch.  MAERC is dedicated to long-term 
ecological research, education, and environmental stewardship on a large-
scale, working cattle ranch. Our program focuses on efforts to protect and 
restore the vast open landscapes critical to the Northern Everglades

at MAERC focus on: water quality and management, wetland ecology and

The Research Assistant III will be expected to:
- Collect water samples and analyze nutrient concentration in the lab.
- Organize field and laboratory operations.
- Maintain meterological and hydrologic instrumentation including weather 
stations, groundwater wells and flow monitoring stations.
- Manage, organize and analyze incoming data on multiple projects.
- Perform occasional literature reviews. 
- Help with tours, special events and other outreach activities as 
necessary.
- Assist with field and lab work on other ecological research projects as

The successful candidate should:

biological engineering, ecology, water resources or a related field.
- Have field and lab experience relevant to the position.
