[ECOLOG-L] Australia now hot spot for deforestation. Again.

2016-07-01 Thread Stephanie Avery-Gomm
Hey everyone,

Australia is now one of the global hot spots for deforestation. To raise
awareness about Australia’s increasing rates of land clearing we have
organised an online, social media flash (a scheduled message shared across
many social media platforms) to call for change.

I hope you will lend your voice to call for stronger environmental laws
around land clearing. All you need to do to help us get the message
out is visit
our Thunderclap website
<https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/43852-protect-australian-habitats?locale=en>
and choose how you want to show your support: Twitter, Facebook and/or
Tumbler. Click the link and either use our message, or make it your own.
The rest is easy – at the scheduled time a message of support will be
shared automatically.

In addition to signing up yourself, we need as many people participating as
possible. Please share the website with others, so they can show their
support for the issue as well.

[ECOLOG-L] 2nd World Seabird Twitter Conference (#WSCT2) April 13-15th | Abstract submissions deadline 21 March 2016

2016-03-08 Thread Stephanie Avery-Gomm
Dear ECOLOG-L'ers,

*Do you study seabirds? **Are you on Twitter? *

*Here’s your chance to tell world about your seabird research. *Twitter can
be a great place to communicate your research to a broader audience. The
first World Seabird Twitter Conference (#WSTC1
<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23WSTC1=typd>) featured 42 presenters
from all 7 continents, 206 more people engaged in the conversation,
reaching 2200 tweets and a total audience of 330,305 people. Each presenter
distilled their research into 6 tweets, which were presented during a 15
minute window. Last year this generated 206 conversations - people asking
questions and getting answers in real time. If you want to see the
presentations from the 1st World Seabird Twitter Conference *click here*.

*It was such a success, we're holding the 2nd World Seabird Twitter
Conference (#WSTC2
<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23WSTC2=typd>) on April 13-15th. *

The abstract deadline is 21 March 2016. *To submit an abstract, click here
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1jXFnA07ZjGShsxOIHSFdUPqnQOuIYvsT2C30rGuKlpA/viewform?c=0=1>.
*Guidelines
and FAQ available here
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/13dkfhhcfJaZoUdtRqAGP5u-KnxaYwIiQDuw_fwdNj4k/edit>.
Registration is free – just look up the hashtag #WSCT2 on April 13-15 on
Twitter to follow the conversation.

This year *we are inviting seabird organizations to submit an abstract as
well.* If selected your organization would have an opportunity to tell the
twittersphere about your organization. This could be a chance to tell the
broader community about your mission, achievements, publications or
conferences - it's up to you! Who knows - by participating you may even
attract new members.

Sincerely,

The 2nd World Seabird Twitter Conference Organizing Committee
