The Coastal Plants Breeding Program is accepting applications for one Ph.D. graduate research assistantship at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. The Coastal Plants Breeding Program is the only breeding program in the nation testing and improving native plants for coastal restoration projects using traditional and molecular plant breeding methods. This assistantship will compensate a Ph.D. student for investigating various aspects of sea oats (Uniola paniculata L.) seed production and performance of sea oats plants produced from seeds. Sea oats is a native plant species that is extremely valuable for reducing erosion throughout the Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. This assistantship is available in August 2009 and includes a generous 12-month stipend, tuition waiver, and low-cost health insurance. Applicants with a B.S. and a demonstrated record of exceptional academic and research experience will also be considered.
