A master level graduate research assistantship in the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences is available from fall 2016 at Tennessee State University, Nashville Tennessee for highly motivated student to work on project that evaluates the opportunities as well as direct and indirect costs associated with intensive harvesting of woody biomass for bioenergy production. The goals of the project are to a) map stand level forest attributes across the forest landscape using forest inventory and analysis (FIA) data, Landsat images and airborne LiDAR point cloud, and b) evaluate impacts on long-term forest productivity that supports major ecological services due to intensive biomass harvesting practices. The graduate student will have the opportunity to interact with scientists from academia, industries and government agencies in the Southern United States. A working knowledge or background in forestry/ecology, GIS, forest inventory, and statistical modeling are essential but not required. This is a fully funded 12 months research assistantship position that includes: competitive monthly stipend and a full tuition waiver for two years.
