Hi: For years, I have noticed small subcircular (in profile) seemingly pecking marks on different trees. I have always assumed those marks are caused by bird, perhaps sapsuckers. Is there a guide to bird pecking patterns on tree bark? In the absence of a direct observation of the feathery culprit, it would be nice to narrow the identification.
