Dear Ecologgers: I have been considering a self-employment idea,but before I put in the time and money, I want to feel out whether it could be a viable one.
I recall, as a grad student, the university faculty seemed to be running in five directions at once. My advisor once commented that 24 hours in a day would not even be enough if he could be awake for all of them. So it occurs to me that if some of what they have to do could be outsourced, there could be a demand for that. (That is the premise behind teaching assistantships, is it not?) So I was thinking, if I were to become an expert in R, and perhaps SAS, I could offer my services running statistical tests. Send me the data,and specify what tests you need run, and I would do the R or SAS programming and send back the test results. On the other hand, I can foresee the possibility that this would be considered to important a task to outsource. So I am asking the ECOLOG community: do you think there would be a demand for this service,or should I turn my thinking elsewhere? Thank you. Jason Hernandez
