TITLE: Visiting Instructor of Captive Wildlife Care and Education at Unity 
College

POSITION SUMMARY:   This position will support instruction and disciplinary 
expertise in Captive Wildlife Care and Education at Unity College. Teaching 
includes 24 course credits annually, consisting of a combination of 
Introduction to Captive Wildlife Care and Education, Animal Training, 
Enrichment and Exhibit Design and the Captive Wildlife Care and Education 
Capstone and/or other classes as assigned. Other duties include advising, 
professional development, and service to the College. This person will support 
the delivery of the Unity College curriculum, plus support and mentor students 
both in and outside the classroom.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

*         Teaching introductory and advanced courses in the Captive Wildlife 
Care and Education major such as Introduction to Captive Wildlife Care and 
Education, Animal Training, Enrichment and Exhibit Design and the Captive 
Wildlife Care and Education Capstone.

*         Advising and mentoring undergraduate students that are intent on 
pursuing careers in wild animal husbandry, conservation, veterinary sciences or 
education related fields.

  *   Contribute to the college's commitment to sustainability.
  *   Contribute to faculty service needs as assigned, by serving on campus 
committees as appropriate given position responsibilities.
  *   Assist with program development by pursuing local and regional 
partnerships with animal care facilities to expand educational opportunities 
for Unity College students.
  *   Assist with supporting our on campus animal collection, including small 
exotic animals and domestic livestock, and provide back-up animal care during 
emergencies, weekends and school breaks as needed.
  *   Contribute to the college's commitment to safety by using safe work 
habits, using ergonomics and proper lifting, and follow biohazard protocol as 
appropriate
  *   Assume responsibility to maintain and upgrade professional knowledge and 
skills with regulations, industry trends, current practices, new developments, 
and applicable laws.
  *   Follow the college's standards of conduct.
  *   Demonstrate a high degree of commitment to quality, interdisciplinary 
quantitative literacy instruction.
  *   Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:  To successfully perform this job, must be 
able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  Additionally, the 
requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

*         A master's degree in a relevant field of study.

*         Substantial experience working with captive wildlife in one or more 
of the following settings: zoos, aquariums, rehabilitation facilities, nature 
centers, and/or museums.

*         Training or experience with wildlife rehabilitation practices, 
wildlife education programming, or captive/field-based conservation.

*         Experience with formal teaching.

*         A knowledge of basic husbandry, training, and enrichment of captive 
wildlife.

*         Conservation education/program participation or development.

WORK SCHEDULE/AVAILABILTY/OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Position begins in August 2018 
for the 2018-2019, and 2019-2020 Academic years; Primarily works day shift with 
occasional evening and weekend hours as determined by course schedule and 
service needs. Must have valid driver's license and good driving record. Must 
be able to provide clear proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

COMMUNICATION  SKILLS:  Strong oral and written communication skills, facility 
with technical terminology appropriate to the position.

COMPUTER SKILLS:  Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, database 
programs.  Ability to use the internet, email, and our learning management 
system.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   Regularly required to sit, use a computer, make phone 
calls, and lead outdoors activities.  The employee must occasionally lift 
and/or move up to 50 1bs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Primarily works in an instructional classroom and laboratory 
environment.
