Normality in Factor Analysis

2001-06-16 Thread haytham siala

Hi,

I have a question regarding factor analysis: Is normality an important
precondition for using factor analysis?

If no, are there any books that justify this.

FAVOUR - Marking Scripts Statistically!

2000-10-28 Thread haytham siala

Hi,

I have to mark scripts based on a marking scheme thus:

10 questions of equal weighting, grade each answer from A to F. So each
question , obviously, counts for 10%. Given a random set of grades how do I
work out a final grade?

I considered allocating for each question 10% for an "A", 8% for an"B"
through to 0% for an F. I can add up the grades for each question to get a
grade out of 100%. However, only 70% or above = an "A", 60 - 69 a "B", 50 -
59 a "C", 40 - 49 a "D" and 30 - 39 = "E" below this is an F. So my idea
doesn't work (and wouldn't be very accurate anyway).

Any clues to a statistical technique appropriate for this problem?

Significant negative correlation

2000-04-27 Thread haytham siala

Hi,
I was just wondering if the factor analysis results show significant
negative ( 0.3) factor loadings (correlations) on an item, what am I to
imply and how do I then calculate the factor score if the same factor loads
positively on some items and negatively on some others?

Cheers

Can I perform an ANOVA on standardized variables?

ANOVA

2000-02-05 Thread haytham siala

Is the homogoneity of variance-covariance prerequisite to ANOVA a
requirement?

If yes, if my data failed the homogoneity of variance-covariance test,
should I use a non-parametric test instead or is ANOVA robust enough to be
conducted even if the data fails the homogoneity of variance-covariance
test?

HAIDER.

FACTOR ANALYSIS 2

2000-01-19 Thread haytham siala

When I perform a factor analysis on the items of a questionnaire should I
include items that make up the Dependent Variables (DVs) as well as the
Independent Variables (IVs) in the analysis or should I perform two separate
factor analysis, one on the items making up the Dependent Variables and
another on the items making up the Independent Variables.

Factor Analysis 3

2000-01-19 Thread haytham siala

Hi,

I am sorry that I am sending a lot of questions related to this subject and
here is another question:

If some dissimilar iets load on a common factor (the factor does not seem to
make sense since it consists of some related and some completely unrrelated
items), should I ignore that factor or should I delete the unrrelated items
from the factor analysis?

Thanks in advance.

Correlation conversion

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to convert a Kendal-tau correlation to a
Pearson correlation.

correlation

1999-12-17 Thread haytham siala

Could you please answer this question? Correlation are given in different
tables under the headings:

1) Zero-Order Correlation between variables
2) Intervariable correlations
3) orrelation Between factors
4) Pearson Correlation between Variables
5) Intercorrelation between variables
6) correlation matrix

Do these have the same meaning but are named differently in different
contexts?
