Can I assume that you use some kind of prefix for dialing these
numbers? X-Lite does not accept anything else that numeric input - at
least my X-Lite, which is V2.0 for Linux, doesn't?

If you like I could send you a screen dump of my X-Lite setup. I have
only set a few lines in the System Settings -> SIP Proxy -> [default]
.

Have you tried to increase the verbosity level in Asterisk? 'set
verbose 3' gives me a comfortable level of output from Asterisk.

Take a look at what I wrote on the wiki about using Asterisk
(http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Ekiga_as_an_Asterisk_client)

Hope this can be of help.

Ekiga.net only accepts calls from ekiga users, so you have to be
registered to ekiga.net so that it works. You can call other users
without being registered though, but not special services. I suppose it
is the same with sipgate.co.uk.

Exactly. On Ekiga.net, we are not doing that because it would only work
with special numbers but not with other users, so people would have the
wrong impression that everything is setup correctly when it is not the
case.

SER is used as a SIP proxy to route SIP messages :
- to another registered user
- to asterisk for a specific application

SERWEB is used for users to subscribe and update their subscription
information.

If we want, we could simply implement the creation of accounts from
Ekiga and SERWEB would be unuseful.

SERWEB is actually only used to populate SER's databases. We do not use
it for anything else.

Thanks, Damien.

I have registered an account with ekiga.net and tried to setup a
users.conf entry for my ekiga account on the Asterisk server.

My Asterisk server doesn't seem to get involved in the attempts to make
SIP calls, so how do I use my ekiga account my to make SIP calls, when
X-lite only allows me to register one account (and that has to be on my
Asterisk server)?

I have tried to use Asterisk as a proxy server in the X-lite config, but
then every call fails with "Caller not found"

Do I need to use SER as well as Asterisk?

Ken.

Ekiga can register several accounts. I do not know about XLite.
XLite setup questions should be directed to the XLite mailing list or
forums.

Just note that our Asterisk can register to all accounts for you, and
you can have your Ekiga softphone register only to Asterisk, which will
then route the call to the appropriate destination.

Asterisk setup questions should be directed to the Asterisk mailing
list.

[Ekiga-list] automatic reconnecting

2007-03-09 Thread Mark Brand
Hi,

There are a few things that seem odd to me in ekiga 2.0.5 with respect
to SIP server connections:

-If ekiga starts before the network is up, it appears not to keep trying
to reconnect.
-There isn't any obvious way to connect, disconnect, or reconnect except
starting and stopping ekiga
-It appears that the number of "registered accounts" shown does not drop
to zero when the connection is lost.

This is especially a nuisance in a situation like this:

-KDE network manager is used to select a network, so there is no reason
to think that the network is already connected once KDE starts
-KDE starts ekiga automatically
-Ekiga starts hidden. When hidden, the user has no way of seeing that
ekiga is not connected.

Is there something I'm missing or is this an issue for a change request?

[Ekiga-list] Windows: No Audio

2007-03-09 Thread Leon Stringer
Hi,

I'm trying to run the Windows port on a Toshiba Portege 2000 on Windows
2000. When I run the druid and do the sound test, I see the graph move
as I speak, but my voice is not echoed back, I just get a high pitched
whine.

I can record and playback my voice through the Sound Recorder Windows
Utility.

Is there anything I can do to address this?

Thanks,

Leon...

[Ekiga-list] I hear no echo calling [EMAIL PROTECTED] but am able to videoconference with my sister with horrible sound

2007-03-09 Thread Dieter Rogiest
I compiled ekiga-snapshot-060307 on Mandriva Linux 2007.
I have a Logitech Quickcam Fusion with integrated microphone.

When calling [EMAIL PROTECTED] or any other echo service I hear the voice of
the
lady but never an echo of what i'm throwing at the microphone.
I produced "ekiga -d 4 > output.txt 2>&1" but I do not know what to look for
in that output.txt.
When I try to get an echo I see on my gkrellm window that there is +-10 KB/s
upload and +-10KB/s download on eth0, when I stop blabbing both streams drop
down.
I do not know whether that incoming traffic has already passed my software
firewall or that the firewall prevents that traffic from reaching ekiga.
My firewall has these ports open: 1720/tcp, 3:30010/tcp, 5060/udp.
The configuration druid said that I do no need a STUN server. Are there other
ports that I should open?
The configuration druid audio test with my microphone works successfully.

With ekiga I am able to videoconference with my sister who uses ekiga for
windows but the sound is horrible on both sides. But I will talk about that
next week.

Skype for linux works with excellent audio.

Not a helpful message but just... I agree with you Mark. This seems a
interesting but missing feature for Ekiga. A wish for next version.

To take a comparison with another program (not VoIP but), gaim is able
to reconnect to the network either manually or automatically if the
connection is lost whatever is the protocol/account.

Best,
Laurent

Without knowing exactly what SERWEB is - it is probably the web
interface (Apache/2.2.3 (Debian) PHP/4.4.4-8 mod_ssl/2.2.3
OpenSSL/0.9.8c Server at www.ekiga.net Port 80) - I would advocate
that it is kept. I'm a strong believer in keeping separate things
separate (or KISS if you like).

> What do we use out of SER itself?

It has at least one important function: the "Forgot Password?" button.
These days, where you don't have to type your password every time,
because the program remembers it for you, you run into trouble when
you e.g. go to another computer and try to log in and suddenly cannot
remember your password. In this situation a 'Forgot Password?' button
is a godsend.

SERWEB would be the first place where I would put the code for the
'Call Me' button.

I think it would be hard to implement a 'Call Me' function in Ekiga
itself since at least Asterisk and probably also SER are very good at
detecting local loops, so a 'Call Me' function should initiate the
call totally outside Ekiga.

Those are my thought this early in the morning. If I knew more about
SERWEB I could speak with much more certainty.
