Paul that wiki was a big help in that I understand the process of setting up accounts much better. There is something haywire going on though. As the result of setting up any account it returns a registration failed reply. I am now trying to install snapshots Ekiga which requires me to learn how to install a single zipped package. That's not a bad thing. I have struggled with it before but not really put my mind to it and done the reading. Ok, I went to svn snapshots and got the keys installed. In repositories I put in deb http://snapshots.ekiga.net/snapshots/ubuntu/hardy main . (Hope I have this all spelled right here) In synaptic package manager i'm getting an error message as below most of which I don't understand. E: Malformed line 69 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache-open() failed, please report. I have checked my dialog input several times and can find no error?? How do I find line 69 I have counted every way I can think of but can't figure this out. Also: cannot any longer open add/remove packages I get an error message Failed to check for installed and available applications This is a major failure of your software management system. Please check for broken packages with synaptic, check the file permissions and correctness of the file '/etc/apt/sources.list' and reload the software information with: 'sudo apt-get update' and 'sudo apt-get install -f'. I deleted the source i typed in for snapshot ekiga. Synaptic and Add/remove now work. I put back into software sources snapshot url again and I get the same error message as be for. what or were do I find damien debug?? Just found out something that may be involved. I was reading about router problems with Ekiga. I checked with my net provider and they say Linux is not compatable with comcast. That's right, but just finished talking to a friend who says they are right but if the account was set up with windows and switched to Linux it will work. I suspect if that is so a person who knows what he doing can set up an account in comcast using Linux. Apparently the on phone help doesn't know that. At least that's what this friend says. I did, How to get debug otput from ekiga. It started ekiga but I hve no idea what I did or if it sent an output or if I have to find it and send it. I don't understand this at all. It's way over my head. I need to do some reading or something to try to make some sense out of this.
