[Ekiga-list] symmetric nat traversal

2008-11-23 Thread Piotr Morgwai Kotarbiński
Hi,
Recently I encountered the symmetric NAT traversal (so far I was
always lucky to be behind cone NAT). It annoyed me a lot so I search a
bit to know the problem and found this document:
http://www.cs.cornell.edu/projects/stunt/draft-takeda-symmetric-nat-traversal-00.txt
So my question is whether the mechanism described in the document
really works and is it possible to implement it in ekiga?

Thanks

Yes it could work. However, before implementing it, I would wait a bit
that the draft evolves. I'm not sure about the success rate when going
through a very busy NAT router.

[Ekiga-list] Registration failed :(

2008-11-23 Thread Bob Williams
Hi,

I'm new to this list, and I'm having trouble getting Ekiga to work.

My Setup:

I have a Vigor 2800v ADSL 2/2+ VoIP Router. It has two ports for hardware
phones. When I got the router, I registered with Draytel.org and have
been using this account successfully for several years. I have credit
with them for making PC-to-phone calls (or, more accurately,
router-to-phone, in this case, as my PC is not involved).

Moving to a softphone setup:

As I have a webcam, I thought it would be cool to try out Ekiga, so that I
could include a video link. I downloaded and installed Ekiga 2.0.12 (the
version currently available on the openSUSE repositories). At the
configuration druid, I skipped the step where I am invited to sign up for
a SIP account with Ekiga.net as I already had an account. Indeed, at the
next step, Ekiga interrogated my NAT router and pulled all the necessary
details of my account with Draytel. I can't remember, but I may have had
to re-enter the password, but in no time my Ekiga softphone was
registered with Draytel. However, it wouldn't connect with any of the
test numbers, and didn't allow me to use the credit I had with Draytel to
call landline phones.

My next step was to subscribe to Diamondcard to get $10 credit for use
with Ekiga. This all went well, they accepted my money, and gave me an
account number and password to use. I even had a phone call from a nice
guy in the USA (I live in UK), to verify that's what I wanted to do :)

Still no go! Ekiga reports Registration failed

So, maybe it will work if I have an Ekiga.net account. I jumped through
all the hoops, got myself an ekiga.net identity, only to get the same
result - Registration failed.

I now have a nice little program which connects to my soundcard and webcam
(I was pleasantly impressed with how easy the installation was, compared
with Skype for linux, which refused to play with my soundcard), has three
accounts loaded, one of which is registered, but unusable, and two of
which won't register.

BTW, I chose not to use a STUN router, as the original, functioning
Draytel account, which uses a phone handset, works without it.

Any suggestions, please?

Bob

Is PAP2 current price ( 50 $) too high for your budget right now ?

Why not grab a GSM/Wifi mobile phone such as a Nokia E 65 to do this ?

 Hi everyone,

This question sort of goes with the question I had asked
 before about
looking for a VOIP phone that works with Ekiga. I've
 been doing some
research on SIP compatible phones and I came across a line
 of phones made by
Grandstream Network Inc. These look like phones that would
 do what I'm
looking for that is having a phone that connects directly
 to my router so
that I can place calls without having my computer on. I was
 wondering if
anyone uses anything like this or can recommend me a phone
 that defiantly
would work with Ekiga. I'm also on IRC at the moment
 IRC server:
irc.gnome.org Handle: joneal and I also have a SIP account

 Thank you for helping!

Hi Jeremiah,

the GrandStream GXV-3000 works very well with with Ekiga with H.264 video.
It can send 30 fps at 320x240 with good quality if the lighting is ok.

I'm trying that, at the moment. I've re-run the configuration druid, this
time saying yes to the STUN server question. The ekiga.net account has
been stuck (busy) on Registering for the past half-hour.

I've just looked in the Preferences. Under SIP Settings Misc Settings it
 has listed

 Outbound Proxy: draytel.org:5060
 Forward URL: sip:853290

These obviously relate to my Draytel account, and could explain why the
program has hung. What should I enter for Outbound Proxy? Presumably
ekiga.net but is it the same port number?

I would not put any outbound proxy at all. The one at Draytel probably
only works for draytel accounts.

I realise that the Forward URL field requires my new ekiga.net ID.

Don't put any. It is only used to forward incoming calls to another
number when you do not answer them.

OK. I've cleared those fields, and completely removed the Draytel account,

Thanks. That's helpful. Initially it wouldn't write the debug file, as
ekiga was already running. Couldn't quit from the running instance so I
had to kill it. Restarting from ekiga -d 4 output.txt 21 caused to

Problem solved :) Don't know how, but thanks for your interest and help.

[Ekiga-list] ekiga: could not set TOS field in IP header

2008-11-23 Thread Michael Ashley
Hi folks,

With ekiga-snapshot (ekiga 3.0.0 SVN) on Ubuntu 8.04 I find that ekiga
can register OK, but when I try the echo test I receive the following
message (at debug level 1):

dialer:0xb523db90 RTP_UDP Session 1, could not set TOS field in IP
header: Operation not permitted.

My understanding is that I need the CAP_NET_ADMIN capability to set
TOS, but beats me how to obtain that capability, or why no one else on
the planet seems to have come across this problem.

This issue is possibly related to my earlier attempt to compile and run
ekiga 3.0.1 from sources.

If I run ekiga as root, the echo test succeeds.

Regards,
Michael

however that was one of the phones that I had heard about before. I have
been looking through all of the examples including yours and they look real
good. I think I like the all in one phones like the Grandstream enterprise
selection because it's all contained in one system. I was also thinking
about getting a SIP phone that had wireless capabilities or an addon
wireless system. At crystalfontz someone was able to get a USB display to
work with a wireless router to provide a mobile LCD status display so that
could be another option too. I was also able to talk to someone on IRC who
was able to tell me what specific information when looking for a compatible
Ekiga SIP phone. Everyone's defiantly provided me with a lot of help and I
