[Ekiga-list] Use of speakers and mics

2010-04-24 Thread Edward Dunagin
I have been away from Ekiga for a long time. So my question is: Does one
still need to use a headset with a mic attached, or can one now use a
stand alone mic and speakers?

That maybe so, BUT which mixer??? I use Linux, particularly
Ubuntu8.10. There are three different mixer settings on my system and
the only one I added was the Gnome-alsamixer. They all seem to effect
the system, so if one is set wrong, then all of it is wrong.

I am an old Linux user and I think this is the reason for all the
problems with sound, and it might be all the problems with video. So,
my advice is if you have more than one mixer and you probably do, make
sure they are ALL set to the settings that you want, sound and video.

[Ekiga-list] Video

2008-10-14 Thread Edward Dunagin
I am running ekiga 2.0.12 on Ubuntu8.04.1 with a P4 and 1GB of RAM.

I have noticed that when I have Ekiga running and attempt to run a

Is there a way to avoid this? or must I just live with it??

[Ekiga-list] Ekiga 2.0.12

In the Idle mode, there is only one video, the Logo. When I call

there would be two video pictures, one from my webcam and one as

[Ekiga-list] Loading error

2008-09-01 Thread Edward Dunagin
I am running ekiga 2.0.9 SVN and received this error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ The program 'ekiga' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadGC (invalid GC parameter)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

You might look at 'Preferences > General settings' and see if the
Ekiga Gui is checked. If it is try unchecked it and see if that is

When you are in a call, select the View at the top of your Ekiga
screen and you will then see selections you can make for this and
other functions. When you are not in a call, then the other functions
are dimmed and not selectable.

I do remember doing an apt-get update and upgrade in the last few

I am running UbuntuStudio 7.10 and Ekiga 2.0.11.
I have a little trouble with the audio at times but usually can work
it out to the point of carrying on a conversation. Video has worked
fine on my system as well. Many time I suspect the mic on both ends.
Mine has been stepped on but I intend to invest in a good one that I
can snap to my collar.

I an running a P4 with 1GB of ram and 122GB H.D.

Lets see if we can't get together on Ekiga and work out your problems.
I am in Montana USA with Mounton time.

I have found that on my system, if I happen to have PulseAudio running
and try starting Ekiga, I have no sound uptill I kill PA.

Also my switches will not move, jump back, until i call
500 for a test. Then they work fine.

Also I have noticed that when I and start Ekiga and it does not come
up and appears, from looking at the terminal, that it has not come
up, BUT if I look at the process, I find it is showing a process, but
no GUI. I then kill that process and Ekiga will then come up ok with
it's GUI.

[Ekiga-list] Error tips

2008-02-28 Thread Edward Dunagin
When I started my system this am, Ekiga would not start. I got the
following errors:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$
(ekiga:10612): Gnome-WARNING **: invalid gnome config path '=/section/key'

(ekiga:10612): GLib-GObject-WARNING **:
/build/buildd/glib2.0-2.14.1/gobject/gsignal.c:1019: unable to lookup

(ekiga:10612): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_signal_add_emission_hook:
assertion `signal_id > 0' failed

[1]+ Exit 1 ekiga

It was working ok when I signed out last night. I did a ps aux |grep
ekiga and got the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc$ ps aux|grep ekiga
edunagin 6167 0.0 2.2 81824 23104 ?Sl 09:31 0:01 ekiga
--sm-config-prefix /ekiga-4iBAvt/ --sm-client-id
117f00010100012041424590052920012 --screen

I killed process 6167 and now Ekiga comes up ok and tests with 500 are fine.

I post this in case anyone else has this kind of problem and needs a workaround.

I still get the same errors. but Ekiga comes up, and as I said, tests ok.

My 500 call shows H261/PCMU on my side too. When I set up the side/by
side view, I can see a fuzzy logo. Is this the video test
coming from 500?

Also when i set up vl42 I get an error:
/dev/.static/dev/video0

It tells me to check permissions and driver.

I checked and changed all the permissions on these devices and
directories and do have vl42 common listed as a module.

But I still get the error.

BTW, I have read the FAQ and have reread it and find little about my problem.

We must have different versions. Along the left side there is a square
button with dots in it that says : Changethe view mode..If I double
click on that it says at the bottom' Registration of edunagin to
failed'

This I have. It tells me..ekiga.net SIP Service SIP Registered
and my name and the next line that tells me registration failed.

I did this and it was STUN and then it detected STUN..

I have a USB mic and headset but I cannot find 'volume controller and
Mic Boost under 'edit->pref.

I did find at the bottom, an audio tab. I turned speaker up as far as
it would go and also the mic volume.

Seems to work ok when I test it. I set the speaker to my onboard
speaker instead of the headst and it BOOMed at me.

Well I used my Browser and logged on ok.. But what about the message
at the bottom of Ekiga's screen that said registration failed.

I have an SIP address, so registration worked.

I will try this later.

I still get very little sound.

This worked ok. It said I was connected and gave stuff at the bottom,

OUT: PCMU/H261
IN: PCMU/H261

But this has no meaning to me.

How do I do this?

This logon worked ok.

What does "on ask ML/IRC" mean?

Peace.....ed
I have a Linksys Router. Don't know if this is NAT or STUN.

[Ekiga-list] Placing calls

2008-02-20 Thread Edward Dunagin
I got an account last year and then had to stop using EKIGA, so I am a
newbie at it.

I am using UbuntuStudio 7.10 with a cable modem and a P4 with 1GB ram.
I have Ekiga 2.0.11 that I got from Ubuntu.

Whenever I try to dial someone, my screen says standby and never
connects. The Icon by the address connects when placing a call and
then it disconnects. I have tried different addresses with the same
result.

Also with sound. I can hardly hear mysef when I do the sound test with
the mic and headset. I have all of the sound diveces turn all as high
as they will go.

Can I get some advice? Please...ed
