Re: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga contact presence

2009-07-10 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
. However, the server (or the client) periodically
(15 min I think) sends info to remote party about the presence.  So,
when a person quits ekiga, it will take at most 15 min to update his
 presence.

15min is a long long time comparing to 3s :(
If someone wants to terminate program immediately then should use signals.

Its pretty annoying to call someone that is doing shopping and not
home from 15min.

[Ekiga-list] Ekiga contact presence

2009-07-09 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
Hi,

I am on Debian (sid) still using 3.2.1~git20090515. I would like to
know if this issue was fixed in upcomming 3.2.5.
The problem is with contact availability status it gets rarely updated if ever.

How does ekiga server determinate if user is still online? Are there
any ping-pong requests send ?
My girlfriend turns off ekiga, but I still see her online, when I come
back I try calling, after restarting ekiga this status is updated.

How long it takes to update user status in a normal working case ? Is
it a bug or just design ?

Thanks in advance,

both still don't install here.

Well it makes sense and is useful, but doing profile is really fast

using the most CPU cycles.

Yes its outdated and might not work with recent kernels.

Packages
ekiga-dbg libopal3.6.1-dbg libpt2.6.3 libpt2.6.3-dbg installs just fine here

I am using ekiga 3.2.1~git20090515 from Debian sid.

Re: [Ekiga-list] ekiga 3.2.1 taking too much cpu

2009-06-11 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
That makes no sens. Here on Debian everything works just fine.

What You need to do is provide sufficient information. My suggestion is
apt-get install ekiga-dbg libpt2.6.3-dbg libopal3.6.1-dbg

Then compile and install sysprof from
git clone git://git.gnome.org/sysprof

Load module and make a profile of running ekiga. Also try as it was
already suggested with audio and then video only.

Two weeks ago I also got problems with sound quality, but I think it
was bad coded I was using or maybe as You suggested something with
alsa(that got upgraded in a while time), but now it works great with
Speex 16 mHz and I don't really need more, I can hear everything and
quality is brilliant.

I am using now
libasound2 1.0.20
ekiga 3.2.1
opal 3.6.1
libpt2.6.1-plugins-alsa 2.6.1

What I can suggest and I do is try to stay away from Pulse Audio which
imho is not mature and break things badly... Removing it 2 mouths ago
from my girlfriends Ubuntu solved all sound problems for her which
were quality and huge delays. But it was before we switched to Ekiga.

Going back to Ekiga I had problems with video quality, but I solved
that installing h264 and forcing it instead of h261 and its all
working great now. Theora quality + half bandwitch usage.

Just use this combination Speex(16 mHz) and H264 and welcome to free world :)

Thanks Ekiga! :)

Re: [Ekiga-list] H264

As to 3) case.

Debian packages are using Opal 3.6.1~dfsg-1
Is using opal 3.6.2 a fix release in favour of 3.6.1 and I should use newer
one instead.
Or its better to keep with 3.6.1 as Debian packages depends on because
something has changed ?

[Ekiga-list] H264

2009-06-03 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
Hi,

I am using GNU/Linux Debian (sid) which is missing H264 due to restrictions.
Current ekiga version in sid is 3.2.1~git20090515.9d0263-1

Is it possible to download missing package from somewhere or compile h264
without compiling whole ekiga stack ?

Thanks in advance,

Re: [Ekiga-list] [Regression] Building snapshots of ekiga for Debian.

2009-06-01 Thread Mateusz Kaduk
Unfortunately libavcodec52 and libx264 are not in non-free.
Another and only solution that comes to my mind that would be nice is
remaking script building snapshots to manually build stable releases.
I tried snapshot despite its missing H264, calling just don't work, so I had
to downgrade to Debian's version.

Those codecs were working a time ago with snapshots. This is the only tip I

Finally is there a chance to see non-free H264 in Debian non-free section ?
