It looks like I've found a fix.
Look at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=578883

I will use the logging capabilities of Portage (the Gentoo package
manager) to take a look at the differences between the debug and the
non-debug versions.

I should be able to get at both the ./configure calls and the
summaries that opal and ekiga give at the end of the configure phase.

It is not. I can't register in debug nor in release.

@Bent : you should re-try without the debug flag just to be sure.

Actually, with a regular ptlib installed yes. But the Gentoo ptlib
package remove the tracing by default except if debug has been enabled.

I will work on it in a few days. I've no time for the moment.

Probably not using 'debug' removes a few flags that are really required.
That's up to the Gentoo packager to fix that.

I think that you should be able to execute Ekiga -d 4 even with a
non-debug build.

The debug build should be useful to track down crashes. The normal build
should still allow to debug sip traces.

As per Mounir's request I rebuilt ekiga (and ptlib & opal) with the

Re: [Ekiga-list] Could not register (Requested terminated) w/ ekiga-3.2

2009-04-08 Thread Bent
I can only sustain Mounir's observations. I have build an Ekiga 3.2.0
using Mounir's Gentoo ebuild and the behavior is exactly as described
by Mounir. It registers immediately and without problems at my own
Asterisk.

The attempt to register with ekiga.net fails. The Ekiga status line
simply says *Could not register be...@ekiga.net'

A trace with wireshark is more revealing: Ekiga sends a REGISTER
frame *with the private address*. Ekiga.net replies with a '606 Not
Acceptable' which is quite OK in this situation.

But why is the private address used? STUN *is* enabled in the
configuration but apparently doesn't do its job.

Any comments, anybody?

Bent

PS I have all kinds of problems with both audio and video, but I will
come back to them later. All of this (including the registration)
works well in ekiga 3.0.2 All in all it appears that 3.2.0 was
released a bit prematurely.

I sent it but the attached file was very large and I receive a "message
needs to be moderated" message. I suppose it never has.

You should find the log here : http://dpaste.com/25304/

Hi Mounir,

I looked at our output.

First, I see several assertion failed inside, from gmconf /apps/ekiga
keys. Do you know how does it happen that this key for ex. is not
string??? What is its value?
** (ekiga:24853): CRITICAL **: entry_get_string: assertion `gmconf key
/apps/ekiga/general/personal_data/short_status is of type
GM_CONF_STRING' failed

Second, I think the problem is that the address you request registration
from is private, look:
2009/04/03 18:04:03.386 0:00.980 subscriber:0x495b54b0	SIP	Sending
PDU (550 bytes) to:
rem=udp$86.64.162.35:5060,local=udp$192.168.1.62:5060,if=192.168.1.62%wlan0

REGISTER sip:ekiga.net SIP/2.0
Route:
CSeq: 2 REGISTER
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP
192.168.1.62:5060;branch=z9hG4bK42270903-091f-de11-8176-00112494cbef;rport

Ekiga cannot accept private addresses. It seems the same problem was
with Ren Min. It is important I think to understand:

- why this happens
- how to inform the user about that <- I will think about that

Note that mee too I use a internet box (freebox, as you) and use private
address for my machine and the freebox does NAT, however, my line is:
Via: SIP/2.0/UDP
82.238.108.175:5060;branch=z9hG4bK8a32fd1c--de11-83ec-001b639fea73;rport

so it does not put my private address, but my public one.

I notice also in your output that stun is not used. Could you look at
preferences, general, general settings that disable net detection is
off? Anyway, the problem with your setup is that all the gmconf keys
seem unreadable (see the assertions above)!!

Before doing anything else, could you save your ekiga gmconf keys
(/apps/ekiga) to have this "bug" reproducible?

Cheers,
Eugen

How can you consider something to be (only) setup related when it was
working with previous versions (3.0.2 and 2.*) and when it is
concerning not one or two people but more ?

I'm sure it's related to setup somehow (otherwise it will not work
from university) but there must be something that has been changed
somewhere in ekiga opal or ptlib that make the registration failing.

Hi Mounir,

In [1] the problem, as shown in the answers, is that it tries to
register a private address. The question (bug?) is why does it try to
register with this address? I have just replied to that post, hoping it
can be solved...

For [2]: should the xcap patch be applied upstream? What is the
relation between (first comments of) [2] and connection issues?

Could you attach the -d 4 output for 3.2.0?

[Ekiga-list] Could not register (Requested terminated) w/ ekiga-3.2

2009-04-01 Thread Mounir Lamouri
Hi,

I'm the -not yet official- Gentoo package maintainer of ekiga-3 and I
have an issue I can't resolve. This issue looks to be linked with
ekiga-3.2 (or opal-3.6.1 ?).

Here is the symptoms :
- I launch ekiga-3.2 and a SIP service I have is registering correctly
_but_ ekiga.net SIP service doesn't work.
- I can use my other SIP service but I can't use ekiga.net SIP service.

You can argue I'm using Gentoo and some compilation flag just break it BUT:
- When I try to use ekiga at my univeristy both SIP services are working.
and
- My girlfriend, at home, can use ekiga-3.0.2 for Windows with the
ekiga.net SIP service.

In my last place (just moved in) I was not able to make ekiga-3.1
registering to ekiga.net but ekiga-3.0.2 was.

I'm surely not alone with this issue.
Two weeks ago, a user write on this list complaining about the same
issue [1] and no one give him an answer.
In the Gentoo bug dedicated to ekiga-3, some guys complained about the
same issue [2].

I think ekiga or opal changed something about connection but I can't get
what. I can't change my router configuration because I'm using a
residential connection. However, even if it's linked to some port
forwarding, we can consider having it working with 3.0.2 and not working
with 3.1/3.2 is surely a regression bug.

Can someone give a hint about this issues ?

Thank you,
Mounir / volkmar
