Good to know, thanks. My Nokia 6086 was the cheapest and included UMA
(but not SIP), so I presumed that UMA was widespread (especially since
it's so friendly to the carriers, I'd expect carriers to push it pretty
actively).

Only 3 or 4 phones in the world can do UMA in the real world. ALl Eseries
and N series have builtin SIP.

N95, N96 etc. you really have the choice , you can find a used E65 for
100 $ I think .

Do these use SIP? I thought they all used UMA (which is much more
friendly to your cell provider).

Is PAP2 current price ( 50 $) too high for your budget right now ?

Why not grab a GSM/Wifi mobile phone such as a Nokia E 65 to do this ?

[Ekiga-list] SIP Hardware Phone compatability with Ekiga

2008-11-22 Thread Business Manager Jeremiah O'Neal
Hello everyone,

I'm looking for someone who has successfully tested a SIP hardware phone
with Ekiga. What I'm particularly interested in is a low cost telephone that
can be connected to a router and would requires no computer turned on for it
to work. I've read the Wiki and have seen the Cisco ATA device. It's a
little out of my price range. I would like to use this phone to take
conference calls from other team members that are also using Ekiga and I
also would like to use this phone in exchange for my regular telephone
company carrier to make local calls and have voicemail capabilities. I live
in California in the United States. I'm also on irc.gimp.ca as joneal
