[Ekiga-list] best Way To install missing codecs in Jaunty ?

2009-04-23 Thread michel memeteau
Hi Ubuntu packagers removes patented codecs in opal on jaunty and they did
right , but I can't find any package on multiverse for the rest of the
plugins , and nothing is suggested here :

http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/libopal3.6.1

is Bojo42 PPA the best way for now ?

Without those codecs the Sip interop is really hard to advertise

I understand the Gstreamer will ease all these ...

GStreamer used to have this issue, so there was work that, when
GStreamer notices that
it requires some codec that is not available, it will pass control to
the distribution package
manager in order to find (if possible) those missing packages.
At the same time, a dialog box would explain the legal issues.

For now, I think it would be better if it was possible to package
those special codecs
in a separate package, so that one can install on top of the official
Ubuntu Ekiga packages.
Otherwise, you would get users having a custom Ekiga package, and
there would be no support
for the official package.
Is it possible to package those codecs in a separate package?

Another issue we do not know yet is which SIP services are affected by this.
Is there info?
