Re: [Ekiga-list] Could not register (Remote party host is offline)

2012-11-12 Thread Kevin Safford
I've been away for a few days, and am delighted to find that I can
register again. I use Ekiga to keep in touch with an elderly relative
who has Alzheimer's, and it's a big relief to have it working again.

Thanks Eugen, for getting it sorted. My relative stayed registered
throughout the period of my difficulties; I didn't. I assumed (wrongly)
there must have been something wrong with my configuration. I guess
existing registrations were unaffected, but no new registrations were
being accepted. Is there a status page (web) I could check in future?

Thanks too Stuart for the tip about detecting network settings.

Very good! If you speak French, I can give you a research report about
alternative medecine on Alzheimer's.

No, but hopefully with the update of the server to be done soon, this
problem will not appear anymore.

I get this problem with any VOIP account, not just ekiga.net. It
started happening with ekiga-3.9. I found a workaround:

1) When you first start ekiga, it gets the offline error for all VOIP
accounts.

2) Edit Preferences, and toggle detect network.
3) Quit ekiga (don't just close the window)
4) Start ekiga, toggle detect network back to where it needs to be for
your accounts.

5) Quit ekiga again, and restart.
6) Voila! All VOIP accounts connect and register

Could not register (Remote party host is offline). In response to a
message from the Ekiga client that it could not detect network
settings, I manually set up port forwarding, as directed here:

http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Enable_port_forwarding_manually

That didn't work, and nothing I tried in the preferences panels worked either.

I attach a debug file, which I've changed to mask my ekiga account
name and internal IP address.

Thanks in advance. It might take me a day or two to respond to any
replies or request for more information.
