[Elecraft] K2/100 For Sale - REDUCED !!!

2004-09-05 Thread Brian Hunter

Hi, I am selling my K2/100 (Sn 301) with the following;

K2 HF Transceiver
KPA100100W Option
KSB2SSB Option
K160RX 160m Option
KDSP2 DSP Option
KAT100 100W Ext. Auto Tuner
Kenwood Hand Mic

Everything appears to work as specified, it's in great condition, never
used in the field. The radio was sent back for some construction help
on the KPA100 back in Aug 2002 and returned fully tuned up. We all
know the K2 is a superb radio, this one is in 100% functional
conditional and great cosmetic condition - a great deal !!!

Mods Included;
PSK31 Mod
2nd XFIL Mod

I believe that all the included Options add up to about $1550 for the
kits plus the Hand mic, construction time, original shipping , tune
up/setup by Elecraft etc it's worth well over $2000 in total.

I'm looking for $1350 plus shipping ( to the continental US only ) or
let me know your best offer !!.

Payment via Paypal or Money Order only.

Please reply off the mailing list to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Brian

[Elecraft] AH-4 Tuner

2004-09-05 Thread Philip Westover
Howdy!

I was hoping there might be an Icom AH-4 Antenna Tuner
expert out there who maybe knows a good way to remote the
tuner with a non-Icom rig, such as a K2. (If you are
familiar with the
AH-4, it has a 4-conductor control wire system that
integrates it nicely with most newer Icom rigs, and works
well with end-fed antennas.)

I've had my AH-4 around for awhile, mainly for a field setup
I've been using
(one of those newer Icom rigs), but I now have improved my
home station's
random wire antenna, and I'd like to try out the AH-4 on it,
with several other non-Icom rigs, including the K2.

Has someone done this, or can someone think of a way to do
it?

[Elecraft] ECN net this Sunay VS Hurricane Frances

2004-09-05 Thread Dave G.
Kevin,

I thought you should know-

The Hurricane Francis NREN (National Radio Emergency Network)
CW net has been activated and has been designated to use 14.050
Mhz !!
The Hurricane net itself is on 14.325 USB.
The SATERN (Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network) is
on 14.265 Mhz USB.

You might want to re-think the ecn CW frequency for this weekend

Re: [Elecraft] AH-4 Tuner

2004-09-05 Thread Richard Lim

Hi Tom, the solution is even easier than that.

All you need to do is provide 12v to the AH4 (red wire) and short the
control wire (white) to ground. The green wire provides indication that
Tuning is in progress and the Black wire is ground. That's it. Seems to
work very well for me. I have a gif of the schematic from 5B4AEZ which
I got off the internet if anyone is interested.

I think I saw the schematics in ARRL handbook some years ago. (or was
it a

designe to decode value into auto antennaswitch?)
And you need tune button.

Also I think this could be done manually , but easy to forget to switch
bands.
Bottom line...The tuner needs to know witch band it is tuning.

Someone out there may have the values or you could meassure your own
icom

rig to find right value to right band and design a circuit.
But look through ARRL handbook.

If you solve this , let us know.

[Elecraft] Taking the Plunge

2004-09-05 Thread Ron Ricketts
After a lot of consideration and a good bit of encouragement from several
members of this group, I have ordered a K2 with essentially all options
except for the 100W module. I had recently purchased a pre-built example of
each Elecraft rig (KX1, K1, K2) and after looking them over closely decided
I have good enough eyesight to tackle the job myself. I picked up a new
magnifier hood and that seems to do the trick.

So I'll be starting the kit in a month or so after I get some other
matters taken care of, and really look forward to building something I can
truly call my own. The folks at Elecraft plus the great folks here make a
support system second to none. In the meantime, I'll be revving up my
prebuilt K2 (#1696) to current specs.

One last thing... we all like to make jokes about the XYL and how they carry
on about our interest in these noisy boxes we like to spend hours hovering
over. I have to say that I'm very fortunate in having a YL that encourages
me in this and told me to quit wondering if I could do it, but to just get a
K2 and build it!

Yes, dear

RE: [Elecraft] ECN net this Sunay VS Hurricane Frances

2004-09-05 Thread Ron D'Eau Claire
NREN has no designated frequencies beyond how the ECN has a designated
frequency. No FCC or ARRL announcement about 14,050 has been made declaring
this an emergency communications frequency that should not be used for
normal operations.

NREN is a fairly new CW-only alternative to the common SSB and VHF emergency
nets. Here's what the ARRL had to say in their announcement: ...(NREN)Net
members have been asked to monitor 14,050 kHz and 7050 kHz for
health-and-welfare, emergency traffic and hurricane information throughout
the weekend...

Actually NREN members very often monitor those frequencies. That's where
members call if they have traffic for any reason outside of regular net
schedules. The announcement is merely a heads up that there's a
better-than-normal chance that someone will have some heath and welfare
messages to handle at odd times.

I think it's a great program. It makes use of the fact that a low-powered CW
station working on emergency power can set up and get on the air in the
middle of a disaster area to send traffic across the country more
efficiently than the complex repeater-based VHF nets or even most SSB
installations. Of course, it takes greater operator skill than talking on a
mic, but the advantages are significant if the operator is available. They
have a web site with more info at http://tinyurl.com/7x5m2.

So, it's a good idea to be courteous and avoid both 14,050 and 7,050 but
don't be surprised if you hear nothing but routine QSO's there.

[Elecraft] Elecraft Net Report for 20 and 40 meters for Sept 5th, 2004

2004-09-05 Thread Kevin Rock

Good Evening,
Both 20 and 40 meters were good tonight. Signals were a little weaker
on 40 but both of them were easily worked. Tom helped me grab a few
weaker ones. The most interesting catch was from Sarasota, Florida.
Looking at the weather map at 2400z you'll find they had a bit of a lull
then. The eye of tropical storm Frances was passing over. I did not get
all of his information since he was sending faster than I could copy and
Tom had run off on an errand but I am pretty sure I heard KX1. I did not
want to ask him for a repeat because he had other things to worry about.
I'll get fill later but this will make an interesting story for Wayne's
KX1 files :) We also had a check in on 40 meters from a fellow with a
Sierra rig. I'll need a ruling from Wayne on whether we get SNs from them
or should I just label it non-Elecraft? Hmmm... I'd think Wayne would
want to keep one of his childen as part of the group.

   On to both lists:
= 20 meters on 14049 kHz.
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008
W0NTA - Dick - CO - K2 - 1787 (you rig collector!)
VE1RGB - Gary - NS - K2 - 2519

K2HYD - Ray - VI - KX1 - 608
W0CZ - Ken - ND - K2 - 1031
N2YC - John - NY - KX1 - 336
KD6MES - Tom - CA - non-Elecraft
W0RW - Paul - CO - KX1 - 292
NC1C - Dave - MA - K2 - 3499
WU3L - Frank - PA - non-Elecraft
W4BM - Bert - FL - KX1? Copy was not easy. From Sarasota, FL within the
eye of Frances

= 40 meters on 7045.5 kHz
N0SS - Tom - MO - K2 - 008
W6KY - Art - CA - K1 - 141
W4IA - Ron - GA - KX1 - 752
W8ZT - Anthony - K2 - 0652
W0CZ - Ken - ND - K2 - 1031
N9IV - Russ - IN - KX1 - 742
NE5DL - Dave - TX - K2 - 2887
N2YC - John - NY - KX1 - 336
AB2SI - Carl - NY - K2 - 4273
AA2YV - Bill - NY - non-Elecraft but it is a Sierra :)
K4YKI - Norm - KY - K1 - 760
WA7BOC - Roger - WA - K2 - 755

As always the errors in this list are mine. Please send me any fills or
corrections and I will add them to the database and post them to the
Reflector.

Thank you all very much for a lot of fun. It just gets better. We passed
the 800 QNI milestone tonight. We are at 820 QNI from 220 folks. The
serial number list should pass 200 soon. Some folks really enjoy racking
up their numbers too. There are 5 folks with over 30 QNI, and 15 with
over 15 check ins. Seems like something is going right. It can't be me
it must be the Elecraft allure :)

Take care and have a safe holiday tomorrow. I am off to see some
Shakespeare in the Park so I can get some culture :)

Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
