Very easy. The K2 was designed specifically to be modular with accessories
added as interest and funds dictate.

Hi all. I have a few extra dolars and a cold apartment, and am ready to
start on my K2. However, my funds do not extend to all the extras like the
KPA-100, DSP, KAT, etc... so I was interested in knowing how extensive and
difficult is the retrofitting of these modules vis a vis desoldering.
Thanks.

[Elecraft] Elecraft CW Net Report for December 5th, 2005

2005-12-04 Thread Kevin Rock

Good Evening,
I was amazed at the conditions this evening. I have not been greeted
by a pileup in a long time. Bruce was the first to get his call out of
the pack. But QQS is distinctive. Next came Curt from Hawaii with his
KX1. Good luck on landing Gary so far away. Dick showed up from his
cabin in Colorado with the coldest temperature followed by Gary with a new
dusting of snow in Nova Scotia. I had not heard from him in a while so I
was impressed with the propagation. Curt took that to heart and called
him after the net. I did hear a reply but not sure if it was VE1RGB or
not. Ray checked in from Virginia with his newly repaired KX1. Lighter
than normal so maybe not all the bugs have been ironed out yet. Then a
Pennsylvania station with a new rig from Elecraft. I am not sure which
one it was but I do believe a KX1 would make sense with the serial number
you mentioned. If I am wrong please correct me. Fine signals tonight. I
had heard 15 and 10 meters were both open during the day but was not
expecting it to hold until after dark. Now I await dinner and the next
net ;)

On 14050 kHz at 2400z:
W0QQS - Bruce - MN - K2 - 3646 QNI #45!!
AH6RE - Curt - HI - KX1 - 464
W0NTA - Dick - CO - K2 - 3900 QNI #60!! You faded into the mist a bit
later though.

VE1RGB - Gary - NS - K2 - 2519
K2HYD - Ray - VA - KX1 - 608
K3OOL - Craig - PA - KX1 - 229 Great signal out of your new rig!

Forty meters started off slowly with me practicing my CW (a good thing!).
Then I heard from Art in California. There was a little QSB but his
signal was fine into Oregon. Then Roger showed up from just over the hill
from me. We are not quite line of sight but too close to hear each other
very well. However on 80 meters we can work FB to one another. Then Ward
showed up and mentioned the same QSB as had Art. I would expect that
since they are close to the same path from here. When I got off the air I
found the front lights had come on again. Seems like forty meters gets
into the motion detector and scares the deer by shining on them. The
season is over but they are still a little skittish. The elk are not on
this part of the mountain this year but we expect them back as soon as the
snow melts a little.

On 7045 kHz at 0300z:
KG6HSI - Art - CA - K2 - 2455
WA7BOC - Roger - WA - K2 - 755
K6IA - Ward - CA - K2 - 3268

Thank you folks for joining me. Warms up a damp, snowy Sunday evening.
Now it's off to work tomorrow morning writing code and designing a little
RF data gathering gadget for an environmental engineer. One day I am
hoping to convince him to let me build an autonomous submarine for him :)
But I digress! If there are any errors in the above lists please correct
me and I'll publish the data.

Until next week stay warm and stay well,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)

P.S. I did hear a ZL, then another ZL MH, there was a 1 in there too.

[Elecraft] WA3WSJ: K6XX CW Tuning Indicator - WA3WSJ's Way

2005-12-04 Thread Edward R. Breneiser
Hello all,

I installed my K6XX Indicator in my K1, but I mounted it in a different
place. I mounted it with a piece of double-back tape on
U1 on the front panel board. I also didn't use the 5-pin connector
as I just soldered the wires onto the indicator board. This way the
indicator is wiring is self-contained to the front panel board. I
mounted the board with the pot adjustment up. It easy to adjust the pot!
I'll put pictures on my website soon. By the way, it seems to work
great! More to come.

Kits will start shipping this coming week.

Thanks to Don, Rolf and Isaac who detected the error on my homepage.

Well when you develop html pages on a Windows system and then deploy
them to a Linux System this can happen, because upper and lower case
does not matter on Windows, but matters a lot on Linux.

Sorry about that, but it should be OK now.

RE: [Elecraft] A K1 with a Tx offset all the time?

2005-12-04 Thread Don Wilhelm
Paul,

Follow the instructions in the manual page 47 for setting the Transmit
Offset.

The transmit oscillator in the K1 is separate from the BFO. You must adjust
the transmit oscillator (C13 is the adjustment) so it will transmit at the
same frequency that is being received.

After setting the transmit offset, you may do the receive frequency
calibration and you should be 'set to go'.

[Elecraft] K1 Tx offset fixed!

2005-12-04 Thread Paul Webb
Hi All

A quick read in the archive (back to 2001) found me the answer, it was C13
not set correctly in the tx mixer/osc , I have adjusted it and now its bang
on!

Going to have a look at my k2 now as I have noticed nearly 200Hz difference
in that from tx to rx freq

All the best

[Elecraft] A K1 with a Tx offset all the time?

2005-12-04 Thread Paul Webb
Hi

Im Playing with a second K1 here that has a problem and I hope someone can
help,

Its as if there the XIT is on, if fact when I turn on the XIT I can get the
K1 working fine and on freq with just a little XIT

It seems about 500Hz off or so, I have tried adjusting the BFO but just can
get it on the same RX and TX freq.

Signal gen set to 7.050Mhz and K1 dial calibrated to read the same, BFO set
for correct sidetone pitch

But when on TX the k1 is transmitting on 7.049.50 , 500Hz off

Listened on the main station rig which I know is 100% and can confirm the
above. If I tx on 7.050 the K1 will pick it up fine but

When I tx back on the K1 its 500Hz low in freq

Anyone else had this problem?

Regards

Paul

RE: [Elecraft] Size of K2 phone jack?

2005-12-04 Thread Don Wilhelm
Mike,

Although the K2 manual indicates that the supplied plug is 1/8 inch, I
measured several of the ones which I can easily insert into my K2 jacks and
find them to be 0.137 to 0.140 inches in diameter - and that is greater than
1/8 inch (0.125 inch) and very close to 3.5 mm (0.1378 inches).

So you can buy whatever is advertized as 1/8 inch or the 3.5 mm size - as
best I can tell, they are likely to be the same.

[Elecraft] K1 Drift less on wide VFO Setting???

2005-12-04 Thread Paul Webb
Hi

I have a K1 which works very well, I have it set for the 80KHz range on the
VFO, I find that the drift is within spec, the first 5-10 mins is the worst
at about 80-100hz after that it slows down but in a hour from cold is around
200hz, when warm it is very stable and no issue, I have just changed it to
wide vfo (150KHz) and it seems loads better, only about 20hz from a cold
start over 10mins and not much shift after that. Any one else found this
too? Any ideas why?

I note that the cap used for the narrow range is a ceramic disk and the wide
is a poly type?

Cheers

Paul
