[Elecraft] Anyone else having a problem getting a reply from sales?
Hi all, The problem is what the subject is. I'm trying to sort out something with a order and despite sending 4 E-mails since last Thursday, I am still awaiting a reply. I've checked my spam box in case something has gone in there but nothing is there.Hopefully some one can see this so the issue can be resolved. [Elecraft] K3 in B'day photo
Even though I've seen the K3 in person (at Dayton), I guess I had forgotten how BIG they are compared to my K2. Seeing some side-side with bodies in the background gives me a good idea how they will look in SO2R setup. The past comments about small knobs and small box come to mind, but I just have to shake my headthese look BIG to me! LOL I'm sure they'll look just fine on my operating desk. Re: [Elecraft] Anyone else having a problem getting a reply from sales?
We do exactly this for much of our email correspondence, but it is impossible to put our complete customer email database into it for a number of reasons. The email addresses change way too often and many email from several different email addresses for the same person. The number of 'false positives' from our spam filters that catch legitimate emails are pretty small. Also, we review the spam folder daily looking for any of these. Let's let the spam filter/whitelist thread end for now, as we do not want to overload the list with discussions on this topic. 73, Eric WA6HHQ Ian Stirling wrote: On Wednesday 03 October 2007 11:07:43 Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft wrote: I just talked to Lisa and she is double checking to make sure she didn't miss your emails in the flood of spam we receive every day. Great!! Wow, I didn't know they used to make short doc films like that. I guess that might be one reason why so many ordinary people in the old days knew what ham radio was, even though the percentage of hams per capita was actally much lower than it is today. And real CW! (Lousy spacing, but real.) I vaguely recall that at some point (maybe during WWII) they decided that you couldn't replicate real CW messages in a movie -- probably because of espionage fears. Does anyone remember more about that, or am I imagining it? Don't know where they got 15,000 miles from Teller, AK to New Zealand, though -- it's actually half that. Maybe they just decided that 7,500 miles didn't sound like far enough. ;-) (Long path is 17,500 miles, but trans-polar -- twice. Doubt such a path would work due to absorption.) Matt, D39 should be an MV209 varactor, so if you have one uninstalled and none in D39, just install the one you have there. If you have already aligned the IF filters, you may want to review those settings, but there really should not be much of a change - best to check and see for sure. 73, Don W3FPR Matt Palmer wrote: @ don and the other guru's, as i was going over the final check on the k2 RF board, i noticed d39 was not installed and hmm, i seem to have an extra MV 209... how much trouble am i in? ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] Switching vs Linear Power Supplies
I am moving my shack to a new location and was considering repacing my Astron 70M (70 amps with meters)with something smaller. I saw some small switching supplies that seemed to do what I wanted but they all have fans. The last thing I want is more noise in my shack. Re: [Elecraft] Switching vs Linear Power Supplies
Noise aside, I have two big honking linear power supplies and a switching supply of the same rating. No difference except you don't risk a hernia when you move the switcher. Some folks will say the linear is quieter. But in an urban environment you can't tell the difference. Noise is everywhere. To answer your question directly - No. They both do the same job. But not all switchers are made equal. Some are very noisy, others make a concious effort to minimize noise. My Astron switcher is very quiet, and I have never noticed the fan as it is about 4 feet from the operating position. Your mileage may vary depending on how close you place it. Jack, AE6GC Properly designed and manufactured, switching power supplies can be more efficient ( 70-80 %) than linear power supplies (~50%). For a given load, they should use less power and run cooler. The issue to be considered is the EMI produced by the switching power supply. Some are good and others aren't. It depends on the model and the installation. As to the noise the fan makes, you might have to try it to see. There are some very quiet fans in use these days. Are you going to have a computer in the shack? If so, its fan(s) is likely to be louder than the one in the switching power supply. 73, -- Clark B. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Rcv Ant question
I got an answer to the second question (RX filters in the RX IN/RX OUT on the XVTR board) Now for the first question from a Multi/Multi friend: How many dB of isolation are there between the main antenna ports and the RX antenna ports? I ask because on my current radio (an Omni VI), the noise floor when listening on my 'aux' antenna is raised when my transmit antenna is connected to the main antenna port. Of course, there are outboard devices and other mods to help this problem, but I wondered how well the K3 handles this without 'help'? 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
