The main downside, I suppose, is that N1MM has no knowledge of the length of the messages (or even that there are messages being played), so repeating (or dueling) CQs would be a bit tricky. Re: [Elecraft] KDVR3 with N1MM
I have looked into using the K3 DVK with N1MM. It works, but I find that for me using wav files with N1MM is better. The main reason is that I can manipulate the wav files in a program such as Audacity to get rid of unwanted pauses etc. 73 Stewart G3RXQ On Thu, 3 Sep 2009 23:01:26 -0700, Iain MacDonnell - N6ML wrote: On Thu, Sep 3, 2009 at 9:07 PM, Jeff Kinzli N6GQj...@n6gq.com wrote: Hi there, I'm wondering if I could find someone that's currently using the KDVR3 with N1MM - I have a few questions I'd like to bounce off you, and it can be off-list, or on-list. Re: [Elecraft] Tips on setting transmit drive for PSK31
Hello, I am also just testing PSK on K3 with Microham keyer using Data A mode and get different results.. Fist think is if you proper adjust level from sound card that ALC meter show 4 bars and 5 flickering on 1500Hz means that every time when you change listen channel needs to re-adjust Mic gain to get good ALC level.. So, if you on highest freq. you will overdrive K3 but if you goes little down maybe you can not drive correctly K3 for require power... [Elecraft] power out variation using FSK-D
I notice that there is a slight power output variation between the two FSK tones (as seen on an external meter, there isn't enough resolution on the K3's meter to see it). Is this a result of filter ripple or is something else at work here? (since not AFSK not EQ or sound card settings). I do have an issue with the Elecraft Utility though. After running and closing it, the serial port is not released. Re: [Elecraft] Firmware Loading!
I do have an issue with the Elecraft Utility though. After running and closing it, the serial port is not released. Interesting. In my operating position, I use a RigExpert Plus between the K3 and the computer. This device includes a USB - RS232 converter. After running Utility, I have no problem running HRD over the same port. In my development position, I use a standard serial port (no USB adapter). Similarly, I have never had a problem with the serial port being blocked after closing Utility. Previously, I have used a Prolific chipset-based USB - RS232 dongle (similar to the KUSB sold by Elecraft), and I've never had a problem with another application using that serial port after Utility ha sused it and I closed Utility. Running XP Pro SP3 on the computers involved, and SP2 prior to that with the same results. YMMV (and apparently does!), Lyle KK7P __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] Tennessee QSO Party this Sunday
Hello, I'd like to plug the Tennessee QSO Party which will be running from 1800z Sunday, September 6 until 0300z Monday, September 7, 2009. We anticipate all 95 counties to be active and plenty of mobile activity. At least one of the mobiles will try RTTY. Several others will also be on RTTY based on activity. Another new twist will be the bonus station, K4TCG. This year there will be two Mobiles signing K4TCG, one on SSB (KK4TA) and one CW/RTTY (W9WI). Re: [Elecraft] Price increases on K3, K2 etc coming - Get those orders in! :-)
Hi, I've had several requests to update status on our price changes. The date will be in a week and a half - 9/15 or 9/16. (Lisa was out this week. We need to meet and confirm the change amounts, modify the web pages, order forms, accounting system etc.) Please don't email or call the factory requesting more details right now. Watch the web order form for the final changes in Sept. I'll also post here when it is updated. 73, Eric WA6HHQ == Eric Swartz - WA6HHQ, Elecraft wrote: Heads up! - We want to give an advance notice to our loyal Elecraft email list members. We will be increasing prices a small amount on the K3 and our other products in September. If you have been on the fence deciding when to order, this is your chance. :-) Orders received before the price increase will be honored at the current web price as of the order date. We and most other manufacturers have seen industry wide upward pricing pressure on a number of key components, fabricated parts, delivery costs etc. over the past 6 months, which is impacting many of our products. In general we have worked hard to hold off passing through these increases as long as possible. We're keeping it as small as we can, but finally have to make some adjustments. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Brian- The internal tuner is good and the external tuner is better and can be used with other QRP rigs. Re: [Elecraft] K1 -: internal tuner or external T1 tuner?
I was wondering this myself. The T1 would go well with the K1. The whole package is bigger - but not by a lot! The T1 appears to have 3 more Ls and 3 more Cs so can probably match a wider range of bits of wire. I think I would go for that unless there was a very good reason not to. With a more powerful radio the inclusion of an auto ATU is a real plus. With radios like the K1 it is probably much better to tune the antenna to get the most from the limited power, and then you don't need an ATU. I am still tempted to order one. It would work with my FT817s, but I already have the KXV144 on order and restraint is needed. Will the price increases be that severe? Will the $/£ ratio be better next month? Re: [Elecraft] K1 -: internal tuner or external T1 tuner?
I have an internal K1 tuner and a T1 tuner. The T1 has a much larger impedance range and will match stranger loads than the KAT1. The big advantage of the KAT1 is that it is an internal pcb that is always there and it also will remember settings for each band on the same antenna so you can switch between 40/30/20 and 15 without having to retune again. Generally, I use the T1 more often now than the built-in KAT-1. If I was repeating the rig again, I'd opt for a T1 rather than the builti-in KAT-1. 73, Sandy W5TVW K1 #1178 - Original Message - From: Brian Pepperdine brianpepperd...@sympatico.ca To: elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Friday, September 04, 2009 1:42 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K1 -: internal tuner or external T1 tuner? [Elecraft] K3 FSK RTTY
Hi Folks, I have a K3 on it's way form Aptos that will arrive Tuesday, Sept 8th.would have here today except for a minor hiccup. But, not complainingjust a lesson in patience. I've been worrying over the assembly and operating manual the last few days. I like to contest using FSK RTTY. Looks like the only way to get the FSK from the computer to the radio is through the Accessory port on the radio. Looks like there are several other functions that go through the connector. The manual seems a little shy on how to gather all the data from apparently several locations and get it into the connector. Is there a cable available to do that or is one left to their own to fabricate such a spiderweb thing. I applaud the built in interface isolation transformers only to find myself faced with having to engineer and build a break out cable that connects among several pieces of hardware. Do I have this thing all wrong or do I need to start contemplating building a breakout cable? Thanks for any help. Have a good day and 73. Re: [Elecraft] K3 FSK RTTY
There are a couple of choices. I chose to use a 15-pin Y connector and plug a microHAM cable on one side of the Y and a Top Ten Devices Band Decoder on the other. Another choice is a little breakout board with connectors for leads. And of course you can make up your own cable. All of these have been discussed on this forum. 73 de Dick, K6KR Sent from my iPhone On Sep 4, 2009, at 4:51 PM, Jim Harris w...@q.com wrote: Hi Folks, I have a K3 on it's way form Aptos that will arrive Tuesday, Sept 8th.would have here today except for a minor hiccup. Guess which radio has the best 100 kHz blocking dynamic range (146 dB), actually 6 dB better than the K3? ... Answer: The Drake TR-7, which was introduced over 30 years ago! Of course, with its wide roofing filter the close-in dynamic range is much worse and it doesn't have microprocessor control and all the bells and whistles of a modern rig. Re: [Elecraft] Tips on setting transmit drive for PSK31
Don, Can this approach be used with the K2 in digital modes and if so what are the suggested settings for the 'bars' when the ALC is turned on? 73, Nigel ZL2DF Snip The K2 has operated this way all its life, but the K3 has a more sophisticated detection mechanism, so control can be more precise than the K2. It still takes a bit of output time for the power to settle down, and that fact has caused a bit of 'wonderment' among users - if the response is too fast, the power level will oscillate because of the required high gain in the control loop, so it take a couple dit times (or equal for SSB and Data modes) for the power to level out. The control loop is reset with a band change, and a few other actions that I cannot recall right now. 73, Don W3FPR __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
