Re: [Elecraft] FOLLOW UP: K3 Power problem: won't shut down and blankscreen on power on
Cary: I think your problem may be related to the note at the top of page 10 in Rev B3 or the KAT500 manual. It says IMPORTANT: If you are using the KAT500 with an Elecraft K3 transceiver connected using DB15 cables as shown in Figure 1 or Figure 2, you must apply power to the KAT500 before turning the K3 On. If you turn the K3 on before applying power to the KAT500 the K3 will not be able to initialize correctly. 73, Doug VE3MV - Original Message - From: "Hunsdon Cary III" To: Sent: Thursday, April 11, 2013 9:09 PM Subject: [Elecraft] FOLLOW UP: K3 Power problem: won't shut down and blankscreen on power on F/Up on power problem: My KAT500 is powered separately with a SEC-1223. But the NAQP is twice a year, and is only 12 hours at a whack. You are already on LOTW, so that's great. I already have Basic, Phone, CW, Digital and 6-band WAS from Gwinnett county, and in a little more than a year, I worked Basic WAS from Floyd county using LOTW. 299 of my 300 confirmations for 6-band WAS came from LOTW. Only one, a 15m SC QSO, was on a card. Just get into the contests and operate, upload your logs and you'd be surprised how quickly those confirmations come in. You may find WAS so easy, that you move on to 5-band WAS. Good luck. Re: [Elecraft] P3 SVGA; chars randomly omitted during Tx
If anyone is following this thread, I was content with the P3 and had no intentions of getting the SVGA adapter. When I learned of the digital modes and USB keyboard capability, I added it. I tried the digital modes enough to like it. Computer software may give more extras, but I find it fun to rough it without a computer. I can imagine more refinements to come. At my age, I find the keyboard is a nice way to send CW because I can see what I am typing, correct my mistakes, and it is transmitted in perfect duration and spacing. It is good for sending code practice to people as well. It would be nice to have the update/utility tools available in source form (even if under a non-free license), so that they could be compiled for various environments. I appreciate that they are available for linux/i386, but that's only one Free operating system (leaving out the BSDs and OpenSolaris) and a limited selection of CPU types. Paul, (Sorry for the delay. I just got in from plowing due to the latest snow storm.) No. I typed "the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs." I sent it twice without noticing an omission, but from then on, every time would have one to three omissions. I even saw a space between words was omitted also. This was done with the RS232 to USB adapter removed. And yes, I am seeing the omissions on the K3 display as well as audibly. I received a reply from another person who had this problem earlier on. So, it could be common, or there are two bad circuit boards. I appreciate your attention to this. Re: [Elecraft] P3 Connection
Hi Mark, If you look at my QRZ page you'll see the P3 centered on top of the K3. That's an old photo. I've since added the SVGA option and relegated the P3 to the left side of the K3. While I had the P3 on top there were absolutely no heat problems. I used some rubbery black shelf liner (the kind that's a waffle design) to give the P3 a little more grip. I cut out the liner where it covered the K3 speaker. Some speaker volume is sacrificed with the P3 on top but I mostly use headphones so it was not a problem. 73, Mike K2MK pastor...@verizon.net wrote > Good Morning, I am considering a P3 to go along with my K3. Re: [Elecraft] IS command...only for main receiver? What about sub?
FWIW, the 'IS' command does NOT seem to have an effect on the Sub-RX for me - e.g. in phone mode, with the sub on (no diversity), if I send "IS 1500;", the main RX shifts, but the sub does not ... until I invoke 'A>B ALL'. I wouldn't have expected IS to affect both receivers. I'm not sure what Joe is experiencing. There does seem to be a case for an 'IS$', or some way of manipulating the Sub-RX IS by command wonder if Wayne is listening.. 73, ~iain / N6ML On Wed, Apr 10, 2013 at 8:34 PM, Joe Subich, W4TV wrote: > > *WRONG!* I use it in my mode specific set-up macros in DXKeeper > (WinWarbler) to reset the sub RX filters when switching among Phone > (IS 1400;), DATA A (IS 9000;), FSK D (IS 9000;) and CW (IS 9000;). > If I fail to include the IS command, the sub RX filters are not > centered when switching from Phone to CW/DATA A/FSK D because the > BW command leaves the center frequency unchanged. > > I do not use diversity in those modes - I regularly use dual RX. > > 73, > >...
