No, and I've never seen much wear.

I read somewhere that new separate pads are not available.

Right, they're not user replaceable, nor is the cable.

The earpads for my Sony MDR7506 phones are user replaceable, but the
cable is not. I've owned several sets of them that I've used for many
years, and never had a problem with the cord, but I did buy a set for
$5 at a ham flea market with a bad cable. :)

Some of the German headphones have user replaceable cables, especially
those used for stage intercom and by broadcasters, but they're not
nearly as comfortable, don't sound nearly as good, and are fairly
exp0ensive. Beyer, AKG, and Sennheiser make some very nice phones --
they're first rate manufacturers. I have a pair of Beyer DT880Pro that
I like for listening to acoustic music, mostly jazz.

Replacement ear pads are available, but the internal wiring is very fragile.

I managed to get the replacements on, but broke a wire. After three breaks and
four re-solderings, there wasn’t enough wire left to work with, so I bought a
new headset.

The Koss UR-20 is the same headphones as the Yamaha CM-500 and Koss SB-40, but
without a boom mic. The link to these replacements was posted in this email
reflector almost exactly a year ago (11/1/19) by Josh W6XU. These are the ones
I ordered.

2020-11-02 Thread kd4iz
Jim,

This is an interesting question.

Eric and Wayne were authors of the design and updated the schematic (at
least according to mine dated 2017). One of them may be able to tell us.

The MCU type is listed in the schematic, but without knowing how big the
memory block is, it is hard to tell what of the memory could be written to
in the EEPROM area. Hopefully one or other will chime in and let us know.

You're welcome, Mike.

With Wayne's permission, I did a copy and paste from the PDF manual into Excel,
but that was several yeas ago, so it doesn't include the most recent firmware
updates.

With my K3S, I keep track of the settings the old fashioned way, by writing
them down on a printed copy of that section of the manual. I also have

Re: [Elecraft] K2/10 (S/N 7967) - SSB voice on transmit issue

2020-11-02 Thread Don Wilhelm

John,

It sounds like you need to adjust the BFO settings for the FL1 SSB
filter. You can do that in receive.
It is best if you do that using a visual aid like an audio spectrum
analyzer to be able to see the position of the filter passband in the
audio spectrum. Spectrogram is one such analyzer - it runs on your
computer and soundcard. Non-Windows folks will have to find some other
program.

To see how to set up and use Spectrogram 5.17 download the .pdf at
http://www.mmccs.com/mmarc/n0ss/k2_filters_using_gram_v5r17.pdf.

You can download Spectrogram from my website www.w3fpr.com. On the home
page, scroll near the bottom to find the links. Both versions 5.17 and
16 are there.

This is mentioned in the online manual. However there's no suggestion as to
how it would interact with an external device. Obviously some code inside
the K4 would need to do some signalling, perhaps written by an approved ISV.

How would it physically transmit commands? USB, Ethernet?

I don't see many other choices.

Thanks

[Elecraft] K2/10 (S/N 7967) - SSB voice on transmit issue

2020-11-02 Thread JOHN CAPEL via Elecraft
Hello Elecraft Community,

I have recently built the K2/10 and have enjoyed listening to the receiver. I
have more recently added the KSB2 SSB adapter and have noticed my voice is
either very high-pitched or low-pitched on an external receiver while using a
50-ohm dummy load.

After spending some time on the issue of SSB voice on transmit, I realized that
if I mistune the K2 on transmit that my voice would appear to sound normal with
no humming on an external receiver. The following are examples:

10m 28529.45u from K2 to external receiver set at 28530.00 (-550 Hz on K2 side)
12m 24939.19u from K2 to external receiver set at 24940.00 (-810 Hz on K2 side)
15m 21229.30u from K2 to external receiver set at 21230.00 (-700 Hz on K2 side)
17m 18119.35u from K2 to external receiver set at 18120.00 (-650 Hz on K2 side)
20m 14159.70u from K2 to external receiver set at 14160.00 (-300 Hz on K2 side)
40m7149.75L from K2 to external receiver set at 7150.00 (-250 Hz on K2
side)
80m. 3750.30L from K2 to external receiver set at 3750.00 (+300Hz on K2
side)

I have previously adjusted C22 using an external frequency counter on TP3 along
with the K2’s frequency counter probe to get the readings from both the
external frequency and K2’s to match. And yes, I’ve adjusted the filter and
BFO settings per the KSB2 operating instructions.

I would welcome any suggestions to get a resolve to this problem.

73,

John - KF6QPC

Re: [Elecraft] K3 Config and Main Menu Dump?

2020-11-02 Thread Tom Doligalski via Elecraft
Ed:

I asked this same question a few months ago, but never got an affirmative reply.

My interest is in recording the settings for my K3, so I can use them to guide
my K4 configuration (if and when it eventually appears!).

Re: [Elecraft] [OT] Broken boom mic attachment on a CM-500

2020-11-02 Thread Mike Furrey
I have fixed two broken Heil headsets with copious amount of JB weld. Looks
like ... well anyway that worked well. They never broke again at those spot.

I bought an aviation headset dirt cheap at an estate sale and converted it for
ham usage. That thing will never fail.

Any ideas about how to reattach it?

What are the best replacement headsets these days. Someone said
that the CM-500 has changed for the worse in the last few years.

Any other advice?

Hi Grant, thanks for the suggestion.  I recently re-calibrated the ref
frequency and TX power on both stations.  I was not sure if reverting to a
prior saved configuration would undo the calibrations.73,EdN2BHD

The easiest way to do this is simply to save the preferred/standard
configuration using K3 utility. And after other fingers have been at the
radio, restore that saved configuration. There’s no reason to have to look
through individual menu settings.

[Elecraft] K3 Config and Main Menu Dump?

2020-11-02 Thread Ed via Elecraft
Is there a way to read back the K3 Config and Main Menu settings into a
spreadsheet or CSV file?  I have two club K3 stations that occasionally
experience some changes to the menus.  It would be nice to be able to quickly
verify what the changes were, and if necessary restore the menus.
