[Elecraft] WTB/trade for K3(S) CW filters
Hi all, Just picked up a K3 w/upgraded S synths, but the op was mostly SSB. I want to pick up some CW filters, preferably matched pairs for main & sub. 500/400/200. Here is the current lineup. Main receiver roofing filters 13 kHz, 6 kHz, 2.70 kHz matched pair, 1.8 kHz, 1.50 kHz Subreceiver roofing filter ,,2.70 kHz matched pair This K3 has the 2m xvtr, so the 13Khz filter was needed for FM. I will likely remove the 13Khz, and the 6Khz, along with the 2m xvtr. If any of you are SSB ops and happened to have acquired a K3 or K3S with all CW filters, I would be glad to swap. Email me offlist with what you have, or what you want to trade. [Elecraft] Grounding and lightning strikes
Another point to remember, many people have been injured and some killed by a non-direct lightning strike. Last year a person was killed and several others injured while taking refuge under a large tree. The tree was the highest point and a huge bolt struck the tree, tearing bark off and travelled through the wet ground to the people. All this energy needs to dissipate and ground is the usual target. With this in mind, during the dry season, it is very important to keep your ground rods wet and the area all around them, use a hose to drip on their location and give them a good deep soaking. Hi, Everybody, I greatly apologize for escalating the list traffic with my question on lightning. I merely wanted to get your thoughts on disconnecting equipment in addition to grounding and bonding. And the overwhelming consensus-- in both public and private responses-- is that yes, in fact, most people physically disconnect, rather than relying 100% on grounding and bonding to protect their equipment. So I'm going to continue to do so, accepting this practice as necessary in the state where I now live. Keep on reading the books, installing proper grounding, follow the law, and follow good practice. And good luck avoiding a direct hit!
