[Elecraft] Return to the list + K3 panoramic adapter
Dear All, have been off the list for a couple of years but have been using my K2/100 as my only rig, mainly psk31. The K3 has brought me back to see what's going on. Its probably a bit late to make suggestions for the K3 and anyway the relatively minor problems I have had with the K2 and psk31 all seem to have been addressed in the K3 design, however there has been mention of a future band scope/panoramic adapter. Can I suggest as well as monitoring incoming signals graphically that the same could be done for the transmitted signal. I have continuous monitoring of the PSK IMD (with kk7uq meter) which is very useful. Its very easy to overdrive and cause splatter. The system would need to display about 40dB dynamic range to be useful and, of course, be able to display frequency peaks 31Hz apart. The above facility would also allow testing of the entire signal path for distortion which would be useful for SSB as well and would seem to fit well with the K3 facilities for psk31 reception Andrew Forrest M1KAZ (K2 #3679) ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. RE: [Elecraft] Spare parts for K2
Another op I know lost a bypass cap recently. It shorted, which took out >an IC relay driver. It really screwed up the relay band-switching and it took him some head-scratching and good detective work to realize what had happened. All he could see was that the power out was lousy on some bands. Still that's VERY rare. He asked me for ideas and a shorted bypass never occurred to me. This happened to me too so it can't be that rare! The other spare I've needed was a headphone socket. They take mini-jacks but if, like me you use an adapter to a full size jack, they break. Mine took about a year. Obviously I now only use mini jacks. I would guess this isn't that rare either because it is a spare item on the Elecraft site. In general I very much agree that things electronic don't wear out. Andrew MIKAZ k2# 3679 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] K2 and linear problems
Well the K2/100 certainly works with a linear, in this case an Acom A1000, but in my case it works a little too well. The limit here is 400 watts and the linear will produce 1000 watts at 40-50 drive. I therefore need to drive at around 20 watts. This works OK except that the first syllable produces a spike of a lot more than 20 watts drive for a fraction of a second from the K2. This appears to be because the output power is regulated by the ALC system which has a relatively slow response time. I am driving the audio so that I only get a maximum of one bar of ALC with normal speech. Does anybody have a modification or operating technique that might alleviate this problem? I could just build an attenuator to go between K2 and linear but this would have to dissipate 30 watts continuous, 100 watts peak and seems like a clumsy solution. thanks in advance Andrew ForrestM1KAZ K2 #3679 ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft You must subscribe to post.
