[K3] RE: [Elecraft] MARS Coverage?

2008-08-13 Thread BillG

All,

Don't forget that you'll also need the KBPF3 option to receive outside the
HAM bands.

I've been using the K3 on MARS (including NCS duties) for ~5 months now.
Running ~600W with an SB-200. All works great; can't say enough about the
K3.

Re: [Elecraft] K3 - some FW wishes...

2008-04-25 Thread BillG

Also,

A finer frequency resolution for AM mode (or if there's a way to do it, I
haven't found it, and I've already tried adjusting the config settings for
tuning).

The choices for 'coarse' are currently: 10.0KHz, 9.0KHZ, and 5.0 KHz. Need
to add 1.0 KHz capability for 'coarse' ... 5.0KHz is still to 'coarse' for
comfortable use.

Tnx,

[Elecraft] K3 ATU (KAT3) - Operating 'Out-of-Band'?

2008-04-24 Thread BillG

I am running a K3 on the MARS frequencies (working quite well, FYI).

I would like to know if the K3 internal ATU (KAT3) will still tune correctly
out-of-band (e.g., 'Amateur' bands).

I know the tuner only has a certain range of operation regarding the load
being tuned, such as 20:1, or whatever. But, is the range of operation also
frequency dependent, or will it work on a K3 that has had its transmit
'opened' for operation on the CAP/MARS frequencies, and is operating in
those 'outside' bands?

 Hi all,

 1) When will this be implemented?

The K3 MARS capability is ready now. See other postings for obtaining the
utility to open the TX limits for out-of-band operation.

 2) Will I need the KBPF3 module for MARS work or are the frequencies
 close
 enough to the ham bands?

You will need the KBPF3 option.

I have been quiet on the list about the K3 until now, but I am considering
ordering mine soon. I don't have MARS capabiity now, and don't want to
 join
MARS until I have a rig that will do it.

The K3 looks like an ideal MARS rig ... mine it shipping within a few
days. I'm a AF MARS NCS.

Re: Re: [Elecraft] Band Limits - MARS ?

2008-01-10 Thread BillG

Eric,

Great news your having the K3 wide-range TX mechanism implemented!

Do you have any information about the TX frequencies (or ranges of
frequencies) supported (or NOT supported, whichever is easier) when
operating the transmitter out-of-band? Even a rough idea would be very
helpful.

For instance, your K3 'FAQ' page indicates that the K3 receiver performance
will meet the needs of someone involved in MARS extremely well (There is a
small gap at 8.215 MHz).

But, what about 'transmit'? How 'general' is it's range?
