However when I saw a discussion about malformed CW, I wanted to know
why... That did worry me a bit... I have seen many groups who can find
no wrong with a product, even if the product has issues... I was
starting to get the feeling the K3 might be that way...

If you don't mind your code element lengths varying by ~10 msec (still
an appreciable quarter of an element at the slow speed of 30 wpm), then
that portion of the Brand-E user community that insists this isn't a
problem are correct.

For everybody else, the solution to the problem (with the radio, not the
user group) is to assert PTT. Then the RF more faithfully follows the
keying.

Yes, you'll have to let off the PTT for the rig to drop into receive,
but since the K3's QSK is more of an inter-character - rather than
intra-character - break-in, you literally aren't missing anything.

Re: [Elecraft] OT: Wide digital QRM on 17m

2013-09-15 Thread Brett Graham

WA8SRA asked:

Does anyone have any idea what the ~20KHz wide digital mode QRM is at the
bottom of 17m? It extends from about 18.054 to 18.076, and is a solid S9
strength here, and appears to be coming from Europe.

I wasn't sure if it was local or not, but just had a cw QSO w/ an op in
Spain who said it was very strong there as well.

British electromagnetic weapon of mass destruction (aka over the horizon
radar) from ZC4.
