[Elecraft] HF Antennas for KX3 Hand-Held/Hiking/Portable?
I am looking for HF antenna options (primarily 17m + 20m) that will work for hand-held portable while hiking with my KX3. Preferable something that will connect directly to the BNC jack on the side of the radio. I'll be hiking for 6 days in Glacier National Park and looking for practical antennas to use. What are you using when you go HF hand-held? Do you drag a counterpoise as well? [Elecraft] HF Email / Messaging options?
This isn't Elecraft-specific but I do use my KX3 for this. I am looking into EMCOMM email and message store/forward systems. I am already using Winlink on HF with both the Winmor protocol and an SCS PTC Pactor modem and those are working FB. I am considering putting up an HF BBS-like system that multiple users could use to store (and possibly forward) messages between multiple users. I used to do packet on VHF/UHF 20 or so years ago but have never done HF packet, Amtor, etc. and wondered what options there are today? My goal is to build 3 or 4 HF turnkey systems using low-cost HF transceivers, modems or ?, simple portable antennas, etc. The lighter/smaller/more agile the better. Any suggestions for a simple message system using efficient protocols on HF? And, based on the success of this research, I might look into providing systems to deploy in the bush for remote missionaries, etc. Any suggestions or direction to existing systems (keeping low budgets in mind) would be appreciated. [Elecraft] Lightweight Windows Laptop/Tablet for Portable work
I'm looking for suggestions for a lightweight laptop or 2-in-1 tablet type of machine to take while hiking/backpacking portable. I also want to be able to recharge it with my solar panel/charger/12V Lithium or SLA battery. I'd love to get the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 but don't want to spend north of $1,000! What are others using for a portable Windows that will run products like HDSDR, HRD. PSK, etc.? I'd like it to be under 3 pounds if possible. [Elecraft] PX3 Future Upgrades?
I'm loving my PX3. It adds so much to the KX3 operation that I hate to be without it when I take my KX3 portable while backpacking and hiking. Wayne, Don or other Elecraft guys - can you comment on when we might see the SVGA interface upgrade and the USB keyboard supported. Also, any hope for USB mouse support for point and click frequency changes?
