Re: [Elecraft] K3S issue
Matteo, I had the same with my build years ago. Turned out that I crushed one of the driver transistors while seating the amp. You might check that. I believe it is located near the rear panel. I was able to straighten it out and get it working until I received a replacement from Elecraft. 73, Dave W8FGU On February 23, 2018 07:23:05 Matteo Gosi via Elecraft <elecraft@mailman.qth.net> wrote: Hello, I have finished to build my K3S but unfortunately I am experiencing some issue.Everything seems to work fine as no errors are showing in the display and when I did the TX gain calibration it went ok with no errors.I have the ATU and 100W PA installed.Basically what is happening is, if I keep the power up to 12W everything is ok but when I increase the power (I hear the relay clicking to engage the 100W PA) the received signal just drops to almost zero.I have taken the PA apart again to check if there was any damaged pins but all looks ok. Does anyone experienced this issue? PS. Re: [Elecraft] BL2 Enclosure
GM Jim, This is Dave W8FGU and yes, I'm still producing enclosures for Elecraft's mini module line. Much to my amazement, I'm seeing an increase in business in the last couple of years despite thinking that I saturated the market a number of years ago. This is a great tribute to Elecraft and the large number of hams who enjoy building kits and home brewing. Look at www.w8fgu.com and you can browse the various enclosures I make including the BL2. Thanks all for the shameless plug ;-) 73, Dave W8FGU On August 23, 2017 00:14:03 James Bennett <w6...@me.com> wrote: Just completed the assembly of the Elecraft BL2 balun. Nice unit, but I'm a tad disappointed that there is no enclosure for it, optional or included. Since there are exposed electronic connections on it, and because I'll be connecting it to 450-ohm ladder line that handles line barbed wire, I hate just having the BL2 flopping around. A buddy of mine mentioned that he thought at one time there was someone on this reflector who was offering an enclosure for the BL2. Does anyone here have information on such an item? Or, has anyone here with a 3D printer attempted building one? Re: [Elecraft] KPad and P3
I asked Wayne about this a few weeks ago when they announced the K-Pod. He said that it would be a firmware tweak. My guess is that he is being modest with that estimate, but this sounds high on the priority list of features. My guess is it may not be there in the initial release (he may prove me wrong though), but would be out soon thereafter. 73, Dave W8FGU On 5/12/2016 4:15:40 PM, "Randy Farmer" <w...@tx.rr.com> wrote: Myself! I like to use the P3's knob to tune to a signal and then push the P3 knob in to set the K3S receiver to that frequency. Most of the time I can very accurately hit as SSB signal, if I turn the P3 knob to the correct side of an SSB signal and simply assume that the carrier is at xxx0.0 kHz. But the P3 knob is small and that makes this hard to do. I think it would be great if you could do this with the KPad knob, and one of the KPad buttons. But, I called Elecraft and spoke to tech support and they said the KPad wasn't being programmed to work with the P3, but that this reflector was a great place to post feature requests. We finally got around to it! Our new K-Pod is a very compact unit, featuring a precision tuning knob, VFO A/B/offset rocker switch, and 8 programmable tactile-feedback switches. Switch feedback is provided by activation messages on the radio's LCD, as well as the pod's own 4 indicator LEDs and audio tone generator. This multi-modal information can help maximize operating efficiency and reduce fatigue during extended operating periods. Typically the K-Pod would be placed next to a computer keyboard, allowing the operator to quickly QSY, clear RIT, enter diversity mode, change menu settings, etc., without that long stretch to reach the radio's front panel. But the K-Pod's flexible interface goes beyond substitution of the radio's knobs and switches. In effect, you can design your own customized controls for the radio. Each of the 8 programmable switches has tap and hold functions. When a switch function is used, it activates one of up to 16 user-defined command sequences that are actually stored in the radio itself, as macros. A single macro can accomplish many tasks at once, such as setting up custom splits, configuring the receiver or subreceiver for specific situations, sending transmit messages at differing code speeds, etc. Macros can be easily created or edited using K3 Utility, which runs on PC, Mac, or Linux platforms. The K-Pod has the following features: * high-quality weighted, soft-touch tuning knob--same as used on the K3S * same 400-count, ball-bearing optical encoder used in the K3 and K3S * adjustable knob friction * 3-position rocker switch to assign the knob to VFO A, VFO B, or RIT/XIT * 8 programmable function switches, each with tap/hold functions * simple switch programming using K3 Utility (many examples in K-Pod manual) * four user-definable LEDs (three of them show knob assignment by default) * audio tone generator for switch feedback (can be easily turned off) * USB port for firmware loading and future equipment/computer control applications * simple connection to K3 or K3S--uses the 6-pin RJ-style jack beneath the front panel * flexible power source: rear 12-V jack on the radio, DC barrel jack, USB port, or even through the 6-pin data cable, with minor radio modification (the latter method results in a single cable to the K-Pod for data and power) * 3 utility outputs for miscellaneous equipment control applications (outputs provide a low resistance to ground when turned on, usable with relays, etc.) The K-Pod's all-steel enclosure weighs a full pound for excellent stability, yet measures only about 3.5 x 3 x 1 inches. A highly stable folding tilt stand is included to angle the panel for optimal access. There's also a 2-hole RAM mount pattern on the bottom for easy attachment to any surface. [Elecraft] OT: W8FGU Enclosure & Shipping Changes
As I posted last week, the price increases for my enclosure line will go into effect tomorrow, March 5th. I've resisted the increase for as long as I could and have not raised my prices in over 3 years. But alas, I cannot ignore my supplier price increases any longer. I've also implemented weight and zone based shipping now. As well as an option for Standard Domestic (First Class Package Service) for single enclosure orders (16 oz or less) for a $5.65 flat fee for any domestic USPS zone. For international customers, I've created (painstakingly) PayPal tables for both USPS Priority Mail International and First Class International pricing, for any country that the USPS provides shipping services. All customers should now see two shipping options when checking out of the shopping cart. If you use the shipping estimator in the cart, it will most likely give you the cheapest price, but you will still have the option to select your preference before concluding your purchase (I don't have any control over this). Please see my site for more details: http://w8fgu.com Thanks again for the bandwidth and if you have any questions or concerns please contact me at dave at w8fgu dot com. 73, Dave W8FGU __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] OT: W8FGU Enclosure & Shipping Price Change
Hi all, I apologize in advance for the bandwidth and ask for Eric's and the list's indulgence. I have not had to increase the price of my mini-module enclosure line in over three years. But with steady increases in my raw material costs and their associated shipping costs, I am forced to raise my prices 5 - 10% (typically $1 - $2 per enclosure). I am constantly looking for lower cost alternative sources for my materials but with my low volumes I don't get much of a break. The price increase will go into effect March 5th, 2016. Also, due to the recent USPS price increases in January of this year, I can no longer offer the flat $8.50 domestic shipping charge. I have restructured the shipping charges based on weight and zip code zone (by state). In the zones closest to my location (MI), the rates have actually dropped from the $8.50 flat fee for single enclosure orders. Obviously, the farther out from my location, the higher the cost. PayPal is now allowing the use of First Class mail for packages 16 oz or less. Most of my enclosures, with packaging, weigh in around the 15 - 16 oz mark, so I will be implementing this as a shipping option for single enclosure orders in the near future. This will be a lower cost option compared to the current Priority Mail option. Please contact me for a direct shipping quote for 5 or more enclosures. And as always, contact me for a quote for all international and custom orders. I have already implemented the Priority Mail changes to the site, but I will honor the old enclosure prices for another week. Thanks for the bandwidth. 73, Dave W8FGU Website: http://www.w8fgu.com email: dave at w8fgu dot com __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
