With the firmware upgrade the VFO linking was moved from the sub receiver
button to the config menu.
Look in the firmware upgrade notes. There you will find the information you
need to link the VFOs.

[Elecraft] Firmware update problem

2016-07-16 Thread Dick Lindzen
I had not updated the firmware on my K3 in a while, so I went to the Elecraft
site, downloaded the new K3 utility, found the new firmware, and proceeded to
download it to the K3. I have suddenly lost the 100 w amp in the K3, and I can
no longer link the two vfo's. I'm not sure what else is screwed up. Can
anyone help?
73, Dick WO1I K3 911.
P.S. I did check the config and KPA3 is set to PA NOR.

Many thanks. Yup, it was the amplifier relay. I'll try Deox-it and hope for
the best. The relay on the Ameritron AL-800 is not all that accessible, but I
think the contacts can be reached.

This behavior is frequently caused by oxidation on a normally-closed (relaxed)
relay in the antenna chain. Amplifier relays, bandpass filter relays, antenna
selector relays are all suspects. It also could be a poorly soldered contact
in the antenna, or an oxidized PL-259 center pin. When you transmit, it burns
through the oxidation, which lasts only for a while. A treatment with Deox-it
or a relay burnishing tool on the offending contact is the cure.

I'm having a problem with my K3 (with 2 receivers and a P3).
While listening for a few minutes, signals drop about 6 s-units.
Original strength returns when I push the PTT, but the drop returns after a
minute or two. None of this impacts transmit.
It seems like a bad relay. Has anyone else encountered this?

Try

KLH-970A Indoor/ Outdoor 3-way Speakers at
overstock. They're no longer manufactured, but
typically sell for about $30/pair, and sound just
fine with the K3 -- especially if the equalizer is set to your needs.

All these antennas are easy to model with EZNEC. You may find some

I am happy with the performance.
Before I built the remote antenna, I had an end fed wire with no
coax tuned in the shack. It was fed with a ground wire hanging down
the house from the peak. It worked OK on transmit, but was noisy on
receive. Getting the feed away from my house really knocked the noise down.

Will the P3 monitor adaptor make it possible to use CW Skimmer

Re: [Elecraft] P3SVGA - Coming soon

2011-12-20 Thread Dick Lindzen
As a compromise, you might look at some of the larger Tamrac Ultra
Pro bags that hold a huge amount of camera gear plus a laptop
computer. To my surprise, this is always accepted as my personal
effects bag. I can then pack quite a lot of radio gear in my carryon
roller board.

Re: [Elecraft] KAT500 update

2011-12-08 Thread Dick Lindzen
Actually, it seems to me that an antenna tuner is needed because SWR
is high, and if SWR is high, there are extra losses in the
feedline. The lowest cost low loss feeder is open line, and a
balanced input to the tuner would be useful.

I've been having the same problem since getting the P3 and I also use
