[Elecraft] RE, XG3 and KX3 Development

2011-09-15 Thread Doug Phillips
I too have used my XG3 a lot, besides the 6M beacon experiment in June
and July. Recently I used it to tune up the receive section of my W1GHZ
222MHz transverter at 222.1 MHz and the receive section of my SWL Retro
75. It is a very, very cool tool!

[Elecraft] W7RDP/B down for relocating

2011-06-27 Thread Doug Phillips
Guys, the XG3 beacon will be off the air until 6/29 and then will be
located in Tamalpais Valley, CA for a week or so aimed at Mt. Diablo. I
also need to put the weather proofing device into its intended service,
covered cat box ;-)

[Elecraft] W7RDP/B 50.025 MHz XG3 Beacon heading change to West

2011-06-22 Thread Doug Phillips
OK at 1625 UTC June 22, 2011 the beacon direction is now due West. My
info on QRZ.com is good and the site will give you the distance and
bearing from your QTH to my QTH. I am 1.2 miles due north of Beaver
Lake in Sammamish, WA. I have a Parr 6M stressed Moxon about 30' agl
and am at the 500' curve asl. If someone wants me to aim the antenna in
a different direction just give a shout via e-mail direct, the rotator
is powered by norwegian steam ;-)

2011-06-22 Thread Doug Phillips
OK now in the beacon sub band as per FCC regs. I have weather proofed
the rig using an upside down virgin cat box (for now). Still aimed west.

[Elecraft] XG3 6M beacon W7RDP/B on the air

2011-06-21 Thread Doug Phillips
After corresponding with Wayne a little today, I have my XG3 running a
0dBm into a Parr 6M stressed Moxon aimed South at about 45' agl, CN87xo,
just east of Seattle. The frequency set on the XG3 is 50.025MHz, my
K3/10 thinks it is a little lower but not by much. The XG3 is set to
send 5 seconds of 0dBm tone, then W7RDP/B at 15 wpm CW, then 10 seconds
of tone at 0dBm, repeating every 60 seconds.

One thing I found out is to add a word space before the call otherwise
the first letter is truncated, and I added one after just in case.

[Elecraft] XG3 6M beacon W7RDP/B on the air

2011-06-21 Thread Doug Phillips
OK guys, my K3/10 with the 5ppm TXCO reads the XG3 freq as 50.02496,
very close to 50.025. I have the antenna pointed south, I am at 500'
asl here 21 miles east of Seattle. I will have to dig into EMFRD to
find the 10dB 6M amp, that I need to build for my KK7B 6M signal source
anyway ;-)

I think the point to this exercise is to find useful employment for all
those XG3s out there that are otherwise unemployed. Lets get more
beacons on the air.

I get e-mail from the reflector via digest so if you want a real time
response from me, e-mail me direct.

[Elecraft] WSPR 2.0 released

2009-11-19 Thread Doug Phillips
Don't know if this is old news by now, but K1JT has just released WSPR
2.0. Some very neat features including CAT control for K3s and other
rigs, should help keep me from reporting wrong frequencies ;-)

Like all endeavors RTFM applies here, very good pdf file instructions.
