[Elecraft] Dead K2 After nearby power surge

2009-02-11 Thread Fred Keller
I also just noticed that the power output transistors Q7 and Q8 are getting
warm when the power is on. I did not say before but, their is no display
or any other activity on the control board or front panel.

[Elecraft] Problem mounting D25 (MV209) K2

2009-01-22 Thread Fred Keller
I am currently in second stage of assembly of the RF board. After soldering
D23, D24, D25 and D26 I noticed that D25 is not flush with the board. It is
sitting above the board by about 1/16th of an inch. I reheated the two
solder joints and try push the diode flush to the board, but it seems as if
it is being held up by some sort of burr on the lead. I have been reluctant
to use the solder wick to remove and re-install the diode for fear that I
might overheat and damage the diode. My questions are:

1. Is this 1/16" gap on D25 significant if the other diodes are flush?
2. Should I take the risk and remove and remount D25? or
3. Should I move forward with the construction and wait to see how the
system performs before I attempt to re-mount D25.

Re: [Elecraft] HRD cw copy

2009-01-21 Thread Fred Keller
Don,

Yes, I have used HRD to copy CW. Of course it is like all CW copying
software: the quality of the copy is dependent on the noise level and
quality of the CW being sent.

Mychael is still providing toroids. I just received a set from him
yesterday (about a 5 days from order to receipt).

[Elecraft] Question on AGC Threshold voltage during Test and Alignment Part I

2009-01-20 Thread Fred Keller
I just completed the Test and Alignment Part I. All tests passed with
flying colors. However, when I set the AGC Threshold Voltage using R1, the
maximum voltage I was able to reach was 3.67V with the pot at the end of its
range. I checked this value with both my DMM and the onboard volt meter and
they agreed within 0.07 volts. Is this an issue since I was unable to
achieve 3.8 Volts? If so, where should I look for the problem?

Thanks in advance,

Fred, KC9QQ
