Hi group! About 30 minutes ago I was finished with assembling my KX3 #3933 with KXFL3 and KXAT3! The rig works perfect, and WOW that receiver! Just listening with about 25 feet of wire though the living room, hihi. Up here in the Arctic we still have 5 feet of snow and no possibilities to do antenna work for yet a few weeks or so, but when snow is gone I will erect my HyGain DX-77. [Elecraft] KX3 #3933 VFO encoder noise
Hi group! Just noticed that the VFO encoder in my KX3 is generating noise on a couple of bands when tuning, On 10 MHz a just a little, on 14 MHz a little bit more, a bit worse on 18 and 21 MHz, and even more on 24 and 28 MHz. Nothing on 50 MHz and nothing below 10 MHz. Is this normal, or does anyone have a hint of any solution of this problem? The noise it's not really that loud, but pretty annoying when tuning around. The world is too small for QRO... Hans / LA2MOA QRP-ARCI #11898 2009/3/5 Steve Ellington n...@carolina.rr.com Obviously a troll. Steve Ellington n...@carolina.rr.com - Original Message - From: dw bw...@fastmail.fm To: Elecraft_List elecraft@mailman.qth.net Sent: Thursday, March 05, 2009 7:34 AM Subject: [Elecraft] Your Opinion: The realities of QRP vs. QRO A few years back in our little farming community, there was a fellow whose name was Francis. Francis was an avid hunter. At this time, the rumor went around the community that Francis had been fined for deer jacking. Out of his truck one night, with a spot light, he took a shot at a plastic deer planted by game wardens. Soon it became a joke...Sir Francis the deer slayer. Something within me seemed to understand Francis' point of view. He was a pragmatist... He had little interest in the thrill of the hunt. He was focused on the efficiency of the catch. Although QRO is far from illegal, it does seem to be somewhat more focused on the efficiency of the catch than the thrill of the hunt. So there is a certain un-romantic reality to QRO vs. QRP. I'm wondering, what percentage of contacts you've made QRO, that you would estimate as not attainable QRP. I hope I didn't break the list rules getting off-topic with the story :~/ -- dw d...@sover.net __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html No virus found in this incoming message. Re: [Elecraft] K2 deaf on 40 m
Svend, Chack the bandpass filters. Especially check the capasitor values in the BP-filters. I bet that you will find the soultion of your problem there. 73! Hans / LA2MOA 2009/2/21 Svend Spanget span...@privat.dk Hi all. My K2 is working fine on 160m, 80m, 30m and 20m but not 40m. I have switched between ANT1 and 2. RANT is OFF. Nothing helps... What went wrong for me? Any settings to check or could it be a hardware failure? 73, Svend OZ7UV TDC Bredbånd for 0 kr. - Spar 695 kr. [Elecraft] RE: Help! K2 display problem
Jack, I had exactly the same problem in the last K2 I built. Obvioulsy they got a batch with shortlegged diffusers at Elecraft, hi! However it's pretty easy to overcome this problem. My method is similar to the J-hook method by WB7SS. I attached the spacers to the diffuser (the leads completely flush with the spacers) and put a thin discarded component lead into each hole. Using a VERY SMALL amount of solder, I filled each hole with solder, using a thin tip iron. It's enouogh to just wet each hole with solder, and there is not room enough for any solder blobs (if so, the space between the diffuser and bisplay board will be incorrect). You need a steady hand, a small tip iron and patience. If solder blobs is created - clean the assembly and redo the whole thing. When everything seems to look fine, attach the diffuser to the display board and continue as per the K2 manual. This worked fine for me. 73/2! [Elecraft] K2: Strange behaviour during alignment and tests (part II)
Hi group! I have just finished the alignments and tests (part II) in my (second) K2-project. Sofar all resistance checks are ok, and the results of the alignment and tests have also been ok. Except for one thing: I think that the AGC in the radio behaves rather strangely. It's pretty nervous in the Fast position and switching to slow makes it a little bit better, but not perfect. I have also noticed a chuffing or clicking sound in my heaphones while tuning the radio aound on 40 metres. This sound (which indeed is very difficult to describe) corresponds with the change of digits on the display (regardless of tuning rate) and is very significant with the appearance of a strong signal. Tuning the BC-band above 7100 KHz is very annoying. The behaviour disappears when the antenna is disconnected, but occours again when connecting a signal generator or other RF-source to the antenna jack. Measuring the AGC-treashold voltage on pin 5 of U2 (control board) gives a range from 2.65-3.74 volts when adjusting R1 from counter-clockwise to clockwise. The recommended voltage is 3.80 volts, which I never reach. I've checked the control board very carefully, looking for solder bridges, cold solderings, incorrect components etc, but everything seems to be fine. I've even re-heated all solder joints on the control board without success. Any ideas, anyone?
