[Elecraft] DVR Repeat on LCD display

2012-10-26 Thread Jim Balls
Hi all

Just getting ready for CQWW, will be using Wintest for the first time and
scripts to used the K3’s DVR

Problem I have is that when calling CQ on VFO A using M1 repeat, the VFO B
frequency display is overwritten by the word REPEAT .. this for me is a
hindrance as I want to see the VFO B frequency so I can search for MULTs as I'm
operating Single Operator 20M.

Is there any way of turning off the word REPEAT

Regards

Don't understand the use of NIMH cells with the current crop of LI-PO cells
massively out perform in size, weight and capacity.

Thoughts?

Maybe safety concerns?

What about the 5B4AGN filters, these are good

There are three designs of bandpass filters for the ham bands. ICE,
Dunestar, and W3NQN filters (the NQN filters are sold by Array
Solutions). All are designed for use between the transceiver and either
a power amp or matched antenna.

Last week, there was a thread on the NCCC reflector about bandpass
filters. There was general agreement that while ICE filters "work," they
are rather prone to fail at their rated 100W power levels, and everyone
who said they owned them reported failures. I've had two such failures
in the two years that I've owned two of them. Quality control is also
poor -- of four single-band filters and two 419's that I bought, all
arrived out of alignment. They were repaired at no cost, but I had to
pay shipping to Indianapolis, and was without them while they were being
repaired. My assessment is that they will fail if run at 100 watts, but
they are less likely to fail at the 30-50W levels required to drive a
power amp.

A west coast company, Dunestar, has been making bandpass filters for at
least a decade, and several NCCC members have owned and used them for a
while. All reports on Dunestar filters have been positive, and there
were no reports of failures.

http://www.dunestar.com/filters.htm

Array Solutions sells bandpass filters designed by W3NQN, and described
in a QST article quite a few years ago. It isn't clear who builds them,
but I'd guess it's Array Solutions. They also sell switching systems for
these filters.

In terms of filtering performance, the W3NQN filters are quite superior,
followed by Dunestar and then ICE.

My two ICE 419s will be for sale as soon as I can replace them.

Re: [Elecraft] p3 Tap to QSY in Data A mode

2011-02-08 Thread Jim Balls
Hi Alan

Not in PSK D mode as we were running PSK65 so in AFSK A mode

So if it has an offset programmed in for PSK D mode then maybe AFSK A mode
has been an oversight

Anyone at Elecraft care to comment, I think AFSK A mode needs an offset of
1500hz in the P3 so you click and tune to the centre of the pass band, as
per CW, and PSK D mode.

Hi Jim,

I'm not seeing the problem. With the K3 set up for PSK D data mode and
normalized bandwidth and offset, if I click-to-QSY on a carrier with the
P3, the carrier ends up right in the center of the K3 passband.

Could you tell me exactly how you have the K3 and P3 set up? What
versions of K3/P3 firmware are you running?

Thanks,

[Elecraft] p3 Tap to QSY in Data A mode

2011-02-05 Thread Jim Balls
All

Just setting up for PSK contest and notice that the tap to QSO is not accurate,
ie if I tap to qsy to the scope peak for a PSK signal with the filters narrow
to say 0.2 the signal it well outside the filter pass band

Is there any way of changing this so the signal arrives in the passband in DATA
A mode?

Thanks

OK update,

Now tried the P3 on a second K3 which has the IF output mod done and I'm
getting the same effect, it needs a good strong signal before any trace of a
signal on the P3

S9+20 signals are shown at about S6

Anything below about S6 is not visible on the P3.

Any ideas before the seller has it back!

Hi all,

Used the P3 for the first time last weekend during the BARTG RTTY contest.

I did notice that all signal levels shown by the P3 were very low, for
instance with a noise level of around s3 on the K3 and a RTTY signal in the
clear at S5-6 there was no trace on the P3 on either the waterfall or scope.
Signals that are peaking S9 +20 on the radio with no preamp are
around –91dbm (S6) on the P3.

I’ve checked cables etc and K3 had the IF output mod done.

Any ideas as I see people saying you can see signals on the waterfall
sometimes before you can hear them, not so the case here.

Thanks

[Elecraft] P3 VFO B Tracking

2011-01-17 Thread Jim Balls
All

Not really been keeping up on the reflector, just acquired a P3 but cannot find
any way of tracking VFO B

For my use this is paramount, I assumed this could be done with the P3, am I
wrong?

If I'm wrong could this be put in the next firmware update please?

Everything else on the P3 is as expected and very good.

Thanks

[Elecraft] Help: K3 - 2 Mic (VFOA and VFOB) 2 Computers N1MM

2010-09-12 Thread Jim Balls - M0CKE

Hi all,

I'm sure this has been achieved already somehow but i'm not sure how.

What I would like to do for contest purposes is be able to have "Big Knob"
man using K3 VFO A with a head set on a laptop with N1MM and when he presses
his foot swich he transmits on VFO A and the PC autocaller in N1MM operates
the radio DVR (all operation and working now, no problems)

But then I would like "Little Knob" man on VFO B (SUB RX) using a seperate
head set and laptop with N1MM and when he presses his foot switch the K3
moves into Split mode to TX on the sub VFO frequency. Once this is completed
and the auto caller / Main VFO man transmits the K3 reverts out of Split
mode.

I would like 2 laptops using N1mm to be connected to the K3 but both
recieving the VFO data / control via CAT.

I can network 2 versions of N1MM without a problem so both are logging etc
etc.

Any ideas as i'm scratching my head with this one.

Thanks

Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Sales service goes from bad to worse

2009-03-17 Thread Jim Balls
The happy story.

I ordered the KRX3, KVX3 Additional filters etc on the Tuesday and the
parcel arrived on the Thursday, yes 2 days from ordering to receiving
the parcel by UPS at my works address.

I was amazed and the order was all correct.

My second order has just arrived for some additional filters, 2 weeks
from order but this was due to one part being out of stock and I was ask
if I wanted the order part shipped within 24hrs of raising the order, I
declined and the parts again arrived within 2 days of being shipped Via
UPS, Again the order was all correct and because of the delay the
shipping cost was waived. Thanks Elecraft!

Well done Elecraft from a very satisfied customer.
