[Elecraft] Setup P3, K3 using Microkeyer2
I have just bought the P3-kit to work with my K3 S/N 23xx. According to the P3 manual, the Male – Female DE-9 cable should be connected between the XCVR connector and K3:s rear panel RS232 connector. My present setup for the K3 is with Microkeyer2 as I am working a lot of contests using N1MM+ for logging and Logger32 for DX-ing. The station computer is a HP Laptop, using one USB-port. The Microkeyer2 USB Device router is setup so that K3 CAT and PTT is COM3, Winkey CW is COM 5 and FSK is COM 6 and there is a Microkeyer2 cable connected to K3 RS232. The question is , can I move this cable to the P3 PC connector in the back of P3 and communicate via the P3 to the K3 ?? Do I need to setup unother COM-port for the communications P3 to K3?? [Elecraft] K3 ERR 12 V
During the ongoing All Asia Contest, after a few hours of sleep, I started to call Cq on 20m using my Acom 1000+ K3 at 50 W. After about 20 minutes I noticed ERR 12Volt and the power went down to 5 W so I switched off the K3 and power supply. After some 15 minutes of thinking I restarted the power supply and the K3. I worked some stations and called CQ for abaut 15 minutes. Then again I got the ERR 12V message and K3 switched to 5 W. After more thinking and reading the Manuel, I decided to try again but this time monitor the supply voltage, current drain and PA temp. I am using a regulated DC Power supply rated 13.8V and 30A. During this 10 min I operated barefoot with K3, power at 100W. Power supply voltage steady on 13.9V. Current drain on listning at 0.94A. Current drain on voice(SSB): 2 - 15A PA-temp: 38-40 degreesC As the power supply seems to do its job OK I wonder if something is intermittently wrong with the K3 PA?? Thanks to everybody for your advice. But my problem still not solved, because I am communicating with the K3 via my Microkeyer2. Reading the K3 Utility Helpfiles shows that it might be a problem that my USB to serial connection is via my Microkeyer2 and the recommendation is to change the cabling so that the PC is connected directly to the K3 and that cable does not fit the K3 RS232 port. I suppose I will have to order the KUSB-cable from Elecraft. Any other suggestions? Make sure you have power to the K3. Don't worry about the power switch on the front panel, it is not operational until the firmware is in place. The flashing TX LED is a good sign, it says the K3 is awaiting the firmware. Verify your connections for the firmware upload to the K3 and retry it. Once you get the firmware back into the K3, the front panel power switch will work again and all will be well. [Elecraft] Problems with K3 firmware update
I was trying to load new firmware to my K3. Present MCU version 04.51. When started I got some Err message and the Tx lamp blinked and the K3 screen darkend. I tryed to switch the power off on the K3 but it did not work so I paniced and switched the power supply off. I have tryed to switch the power on again but it is not possible. What do I do?? [Elecraft] PSK31-D Question!
Hi I am using Logger32 and N1MM logging programs with my K3. On RTTY (FSK-D) and CW I am using the microKeyer 2 from microHAM as interface between K3 and logger 32 as well as N1MM. To work digital modes both logging programs are using the MMTTY / MMVARI modules for coding/decoding This combination is working very well with FSK-D and CW but I also want to use PSK31-D. PSK31 is OK receiving using the microKeyer2 soundcard but on transmit I am only getting a carrier without any modulation. Is there somebody out there using the same equipment who could give me some advice??? I know that I could use DATA A mode and use the soundcard in microkeyer2 to audio-modulate the carrier but I really want to use the direct PSK31 mode in the K3 for several reassons. [Elecraft] Help Re K3 dead internal keyer
Please help! I wanted today to use my K3 in the car, working some CW on 80m. I am using a mobil whip antenna tuned to 3530. I have used this installation several times before with success. In the morning today I tested the installation, tuned the antenna, sent some CW with the bencher and everything seemed OK I then drove 1 hour to my operating location and put the K3 to live. Receiver working OK and ant tuned very well, reached for the bencher to start sending cq, but the internal keyer was silent. No CW transmission. Not a single dit or dah. I drove home and have now tested the bencher into my Winkey and all works fine, but moving the manipulator to the paddle jack on the K3 is not producing any CW. What has happened and why??? [Elecraft] Setting up K3 and N1MM Contest software
Maybe this is not the right forum but... I want to use my K3 in CW-contests using N1MM software. I am using a HP-Laptop with Windows XP and the Elecraft KUSB USB to serial converter. When working CW I am using my Bencher manipulator connected to the K3. How do I get the N1MM program to send CW via the KUSB converter? I have tried K3 set for PTT-KEY N1MM set for DTR = CW but then the K3 goes to transmit mode! How do I get the PTT-ing right? [Elecraft] Reversed polarity from car-battery
Using my K3 in a portable/mobile operation with the radio connected to the 13.8 car-battery I made a follish misstake and reversed the polarity. Result: Dead rig. I suppose no one out there have made the same misstake but perhaps someone knows what I should do to get the rig back and functioning again. On the block diagram I do only see the 25A ciruit breaker. Is this one self-resetting? What might have been damaged?? [Elecraft] Using the K3 with ACOM 1000 PA
I want to use my Acom 1000 PA with my K3 I am using the K3 internal bug and I have contected KEY OUT on the back of K3 to KEY IN on my Acom 1000 but the PA T/R relay is not closing at transmitt! I am assembling my new K3 with S/N 2361 I am finished exept KPA3 100W Option. Now performing the Configuration and Calibration tests everything seems to be working just fine except when I come to Low-Power (5W) TX Gain Calibration! Switching through the bands, bypassing the ATU, with a connected dummy-load to ANT1 something seems wrong with 160m on 1.820 KHz I get PWR-reading of 2,2W and an error msg ERR TxG on 1.900 KHz I get PWR-reading of 5.0 W but still an error msg ERR TxG on all the other bands I got 5,0W and no errors Is something wrong or is this normal?? However I want to work with full pwr also on the lower part of 160m. Is there a way to correct this situation or what can I do??
