[Elecraft] [K3] M1-M4: Can the CW Paddle that has four memory switches, be wired directly to the K3? Switches built into paddle base.

2009-11-25 Thread Mark M W2OR

I have a favorite paddle that has four SPST mini- spring switches built into
its base, intended to activate cw memories in an external keyer (which I
don't have). It's probably futile to think I can directly wire those
switches up to the K3 and somehow activate M1 - M4, but just thought I'd ask
here. Again, there's no external paddle here, and the preference is not to
build any circuitry to make this work. Thanks, and happy Thanksgiving. de

know how to do this? Thanks!

[Elecraft] [K3] Setting up out-of-band KAT3 Antenna Tuner memories for Shortwave, AM, and non-Ham bands

2009-12-26 Thread Mark M W2OR

My KAT3 works fine on the ham bands. And tuning the KAT3's L-network manually
should be no problem using the general L/C SET instructions contained
(Manual page-55) in the CONFIG menu, for selecting among the many L/C
variables. No problem. As readers are aware, the KAT3's auto tune function
is non functional (without a transmit signal) on non-ham bands, so tuning
the KAT3 must be done manually when receiving outside the ham bands. It'd
be nice to use the KAT3 memory feature on the shortwave, AM and other
non-ham bands, and hopefully there's an easy way to find the L/C settings
for these bands and then save them to memory, so that manual L/C tuning
would not be necessary when jumping between shortwave or AM broadcast bands.
Before venturing down this road, it'd be great to know how others have set
up the out-of-band KAT3 memories. Thanks.

[Elecraft] K3 /Rx2 Best Seller Version for Shortwave Listeners Only

2010-02-13 Thread Mark M W2OR

Wayne, Eric -- If Elecraft ever develops an inexpensive 'curtailed' K3
receiver only, just for shortwave listeners, it will be a best seller -- my
guess: 1,000 units sold over a ten year period. Development wouldn't be
hard: Two receivers. No Tx-related boards at all (upgrade later). Hundreds
of memories. Add a VHF Rx module for Air/Ham/Government. A Utility program
to upgrade/ download SW and VHF and AM Braodcast frequency lists into the
K3. SW antenna accessories. Etcetera. Call it the "K3-Rx2" model.
Whatever. Have fun with this one. //Mark, W2OR.
