[Elecraft] K3 issues - new modules installed - 250 Hz filter, DVK, KXV3A
Hello all, Ran into some issues with the K3 after adding some new boards. Here is the sequence of screens on the radio as I move to get it going again. Few more experiences - And added some more notes in the first email below. On SSB, it transmits okay, no ERR on screen. When I just send a short message on CW, it transmits, then the next time it shows this series of ERR messages. By pushing any button on the radio, it returns to normal screen, showing VFO A and B (smaller print size), then transmit again, ERR TxF and no output power after that first burst of RF. I have swapped power supplies - same problem. Let me describe the sequence of events and what I see on the screen. Power up: E 020202 (main VFO line) under that: ERR DSE (VFO B info) E 020202 under that call sign (VFO B info) scrolling E 020202 under that: ERR DSE Press the A/B button (actually press any button) 14.232.32 under that ERR DS3 Press the A/B button 14.232.32 under that ERR BP2 Press the A/B button 14.232.32 ERR BP3 (pressing the button changes the type of ERR showing? DS3, BP2, BP3, IF2, etc) Press A/B button 14.232.32 ERR IF2 Press A/B button 14.032.00 under that 14.232.32 Transmit on CW (short burst - then nothing - no more TX) 14.032.00 ERR TxF No transmitter power after that first burst of RF. Had some trouble getting the radio to be read by the N1MM program, but eventually got that going. But does not appear to be stable, frequent N1MM message saying to retry connecting the radio, etc. Regards, Mark, K1RX __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 Audio instability
Recently noticed a problem with receive audio. Hear a crackling sound while using the headphones and that noise does NOT vary as a function of the AF gain control. It comes and goes, very random and very objectionable. Almost like hearing instability in the audio stage of an old vacuum tube receiver - if I can coin it that way? Suggestions for the cause and fix? [Elecraft] K3 SSB issue resolved
Thanks to all that helped. Final answer was the filter setting was wrong. Was trying use the CW filter on SSB (that's why only a narrow audio frequency range seemed to pass) - set filters properly and all is good. Manual fix or the utility software handled this fix. [Elecraft] Fw: SSB issue K3
Thanks for the initial round of comments and suggestions. The radio did go through the calibration as per the instructions - worked fine. Symptoms: Full CW power yet on SSB with mic at 28 and comp at 25, initially full power out, then quickly drops off to say 10 to 15 watts. Have tried the ATU and no change - thinking it was a problem with SWR and the radio is protecting itself (of course on the same band, the CW power is stable with or without the ATU). Almost behaves like there is some AGC action and drives the power down. But then it will jump back up sporadically. Also the quality of the audio is weird (not sure how to describe). Don't believe the connectors are intermittent with the mic connection. I have a second K3 and set both MENU and CONFIG items the same - still the problem continues. The mic connection has been made directly to both the front and the rear connections - no change With or without ATU on - no change Different mics tried and no change. Swapped power supplies (one K3 to the other) no change Suggestions now? [Elecraft] K3 power drop and ERR 12V
First time having an issue with my K3 - have the 100 watt module and today, got an error on the display indicating ERR12V and the power dropped. Had to adjust upward to only reach 12 watts. Need some guidance from the group - I hope the 100 watt module is not blown. Please advise and thanks! [Elecraft] K3 power drop and ERR 12V - resolved
Found issue - when disassemblying the radio to access the multi pin connector, had to removed the wires from the circuit breaker. One wire pulled out of the crimped lug connector. Ended up removing some of the insulation on that connector and soldered the wire on (the crimp area was pretty messed up). Works perfect now. Thankfully did not have to go the full route of replacing pins but did see the discoloring, so at some point, this will probably rear its ugly head again. Got a lot of help here - thanks great resource! HNY all. Have you checked the header connector on the main RF board for corrosion? Some early k3's have had this problem. Connector is where the KPA100 hooks up to RF Board. You have to remove the KPA100 to check this. A friend of mine had this problem with his k3 and he did the field fix for this, which is to solder across certain pins. If this is it, let me know and I will try to find the information on how to fix it or maybe the reflector archives might have this. Hope this helps km5ps john __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
