[Elecraft] ESSB
Is anyone using ESSB? If so, can you listen to SSB using the AM filter set say to 3.5 width but transmit on the 2.7/2.8 filter? [Elecraft] 2.1 kHz filter - K3
I have the 2.8 kHz filter in the main receiver and want to supplement that with either the 2.1 kHz or 1.8 kHz filter. A friend who has the 1.8 thought is was too narrow. What are you guys using? Anyone have all three? [Elecraft] 2M with K3 - anyone doing it?
I recently picked up a used THL 500V 2M amp. I want to drive it with my K3, which has no 2M capability. The K144KV-F internal 2M module only has 10 Watts output, which is not enough to drive the THP 500V to 500 Watts. The KV144 2M transverter has enough power to do it, but it has to be external and is a kit, something difficult with my increasing age. Since Elecraft does not plan to have an internal 2M module with more than 10 Watts, would I be better off with the external transverter since I want to do 2M terrestrial as well as EME? Or should I give up on the K3 for 2M EME and wait for the new ICOM to be released? [Elecraft] K3 and SignaLink USB Interface
Anyone using this combo with the ACC (15-pin) instead of the mic jack? DX Engineering, and well as TigerTronics, sell all kinds of pre-made cables but only a mic cable for the K3. I'd rather connect to the ACC, as I do with the IC-7800, where the audio signal is not dependent on the AF volume or mic gain settings. [Elecraft] K3 BC Reception

[Elecraft] K3 160M Diversity Users
I am about to order filters for the K3 and need some final advice. I have the capability for diversity reception on 160 and 80 and am wondering what is the best filter pair to use for CW. Price really doesn't enter into the equation as a pair of matched 5-poles filters are about the same price as a pair of 8-pole filters. What are your recommendation if I were to get only one pair of filters? Is there any real value to getting a pair of narrow (200Hz or 250Hz) filters as well as a pair of the wider (400Hz or 500Hz) CW filters, or am I just wasting money? Is there a noticeable difference between the 5-pole and 8-pole filters? I would appreciate hearing from someone who has already gone through this and it would save me a lot of mental anguish! [Elecraft] Diversity Revisited
I asked this same question back in December and received many response. I then summarized the responses and posted that summary on this reflector. Now that it's seven months later, I was wondering if anyone wants to share any additional experiences. I use diversity reception with two antennas, one for the main and the other for the sub-receiver, on the low bands (40-160). For receive only, I have a K9AY loop and, soon, the DX Engineering 4-square receive antenna on a separate lot about 100' away. Most of the DX activity on the low bands is on CW, except for 80, where there is a considerable amount of SSB activity. For diversity reception, the manual says that the best results are obtained when the filters in the main and sub are the same bandwidth and matched. I am using a pair of 500 Hz for CW diversity but wondering what others are using for SSB diversity. Are the pair of 1.8 SSB filters worth it over the stock 2.7 filters in the main and sub? Also, are the 200 or 250 filter too sharp for CW diversity on 160 (my primary low band area of interest)? What are others using for CW diversity receive? Anyone using diversity for other than the low bands? How about BC diversity using 2 general receive modules? [Elecraft] General Coverage Receive Module
I see that the general coverage receiver module can be installed in either the main or sub-receiver. I was planning to install it on the main board as I have the widest filter (13MHz) there. But before I do, I wanted to hear some pros and cons for installing on either board. [Elecraft] K-3 Filters for DXing and contesting with Diversity Reception
Thanks for all the many helpful responses. Since many out there might want to know what they were, I have compiled a consensus of the many replies I received. I plan on using the K-3 for DXing and contesting (CW, SSB, and RTTY) and want to use diversity reception with two receive antennas on the low bands, and asked for recommendations. Here's the consensus: 1) Stock 2.7's in main and sub - unmatched since they are so wide that any offset wouldn't matter - only one went for the 2.8's 2) 1.8 in main for crowded SSB during contest 3) Pair of 500's in main and sub for CW - only a few said to match - most said split any offset - only a few opted for a pair of 400's 4) 250 in main only if you do RTTY contesting - no one recommend 250 for CW as curves are very similar to 400 Since the stock 2.7 comes with the K-3 and the sub, you only have to buy 4 filters, the pair of 5-pole 500's and one each of the 8-pole 1.8 and 250. Quite a savings over buying 10 filters! I should mention that the responses ranged the full gamut, with one ham saying he used only the stock 2.7 and relied on DSP, to another who had all 10 slots filled with pairs of 8-poles. Several mentioned that the 8-poles are not zero offset and can have offset as high as 80Hz. That should make a difference unless you're looking at the 250 or 400 filters. One ham recommend a pair of matched 200 for weak 160 sigs in the mud, but most of the other preferred the 500's with narrow DSP while one preferred the 250's. Hope this is of some value to you. [Elecraft] Filters
Hi - I'm new to the list and I want to order all the filters I might need so I can install them at the same time and not have to open the rig each time. I operate mainly CW, but also SSB and RTTY. I am primarily a DXer but a contester secondarily. My main bands are the two extremes: 160 and 6. What are some recommendations for filters for the main and sub? I want to opt for replacing the 5-pole 2.7 with the 8-pole 2.8. I want the 8-pole filters but it looks like little difference between the 250 and 400. Also, is there much difference between the 1.8 and 2.1? Definitely want a 2.8 for both main and sub as well as the 1.0 for the sub when searching on split. Anyone have a suggestion for the 6.0 for 6M when activity is low? What should I choose for 5 in the main and 5 in the sub? Should they be all the same? I believe all SSB goes through the 2.8 on transmit - is that the same for CW? Anyone responses will be appreciated.
