[Elecraft] K3: anyone using Sennheiser HMD 280 Pro?

2013-06-13 Thread PAUL BRADBEER
I've used my HD 280 pro headphones (normally used on my hi-fi !) with my
K3, and very much prefer it to my Heil headset. I'm thinking of splashing
out for the headset version (HMD 280 Pro)but I have seen a number of
complaints about low audio output from the microphone. Is anyone using
this headset with a K3? Do they drive the mic input well enough? I think
I read that the K3 mic input will deal with just about anything but the HMD
280 Pro is pretty pricey, so I want to do some research first!

[Elecraft] P3: Noisy on 28MHz

2012-07-30 Thread PAUL BRADBEER
I've been somewhat curious as to why my P3 has been showing an increased
noise floor on 28MHz recently (only 28 MHz, all other bands are fine..).
To cut a long story (but quite a methodical investigation) short, powering
the P3 from my K3 gives about a 10dB increase in noise compared to powering
it direct from my RigRunner. All adds upmy P3 always was powered
direct until I did the mod on the K3 to increase the available current on
the 12v accessory socket. It's no hardship - I'll just power it from the
RigRunner but curious to se if anyone else has noticed this?

[Elecraft] K3 External 2nd receiver with KXV3 and 6m pre-amp?

2008-07-29 Thread Paul Bradbeer
Dave,

I'm not using an external 2nd receiver but I too have gone for an ARR
preamp. Mine was despatched a week ago, so should be here soon - I went
for the P50VD (i.e. not the Gaesfet one) because I figured I didn't need
so much gain, and the input IP3 figures are very close. It looks like a
neat mechanical design too. I'll let you know how I get on..
