[Elecraft] OT: K3 Utility beta
Apologies for taking up bandwidth but I'd like to let Dick Dievendorff know that comcast has bounced every single message (10+) I sent him on Tuesday from my orange.fr account about the K3 Utility beta. 'Returned to sender' messages from orange.fr only arrived this afternoon. 73, Pete Connors, F5VNB/G4PLZ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] K3: Elecraft magic
Not only are the firmware updates magic, the K3 Utility updates are too: I have been whinging to Gary at Elecraft support about the latest K3 Utility RF gain calibration not writing the Sub RX gain calibration data to the EEPROM on my K3 with firmware 3.94. We feared a hardware fault and I had already enquired about cost and turnaround time when Dick Dievendorff came up with a K3 Utility beta that promptly cured the problem. It works with f/w 3.97 too. I am awestruck; I do not believe that the Yaesu/Icom/Kenwood triumvirate will *ever* begin to approach this speed and quality of customer response. 73, Pete F5VNB/G4PLZ __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] K3 SubRX anomaly continued
Gary, I have now removed the front panel, reseated the aux DSP, replaced the front panel and reassembled with exactly the same symptoms. This is the second time my K3 has developed a fault out of the blue and it is expensive (increasingly) to return things to Aptos for servicing. I would be grateful if we could localise the fault as closely as possible in order to work out the relative cost/benefit of returning a part for repair or buying a replacement. The latter has only a one-way mailing cost for me and keeps my K3 in service. A further thought occurs to me: in 'external source' RF calibration mode the dsp is calculating the calibration data, and in 'factory default' mode the data writes to the dsp, so does this data *need* to be written to the EEPROM for calibration to survive power resets? Or is it just stored there for saving a configuration? 73, Pete F5VNB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
[Elecraft] Fun with your P3
If you have never used a panadapter you are in for hours of amusement: I am just looking/listening with PSDR/IF on 40m to a remote control ssb station (appropriately based in a city renowned for wind) whose spectrum below 200Hz is peaking 15dB higher than the rest of his signal. Integrate the area under the curve and you can approximate that at *least* half of his power is useful communication only for whales ;-) And at other times when you heard spitch you will be able to see the imd christmas tree 40kHz away that is causing it. Probably with 'ALC' ;-) You may also get a surprise with wobbly signals out either side of your passband (hopefully) on an empty band. Switched mode PSUs are the devil's work :-( Have fun, Pete F5VNB __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
Re: [Elecraft] K3 ACC cable 'free'
Sorry - I was wrong! I had done a simple continuity test but, following the advice of Monty K2DLJ, I found that some of the pins are paralleled so the cable is not what is needed. [Elecraft] K3 ACC cable 'free'
A 'free' source for fully wired ACC cables: I just found that the unused VGA cable supplied with my Dell monitor has all pins wired. I use the DVI cable.
