Re: [Elecraft] K4 Remote Antenna button

I have neither a K4 nor a loop controller from Loftur[0], but my dream is
adding an ethernet interface to the latter and controlling it from the
former.

Re: [Elecraft] KX2 3D/X-ray model live demo at QSO Today Ham Expo

2020-08-08 Thread Phil Genera
All of the actual talks (not the Q) are pre-recorded, unlisted youtube
videos with a transparent pane in front of them to make it hard to get to
the underlying video. A few moments with the page inspector in chrome will
get you the youtube link, which can then play back where and when you
choose.

To your second point, nothing. I had my KXPA100 in my basement for a few

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 - UHF emissions

2014-06-24 Thread Phil Genera
If you have an early KX3, you probably need KX3BNCMDKT, a new BNC connector
assembly with some inline filtering.

 Hi,

I've noticed that my pair of scanners often receive strong spurii from my
 KX3's
receiver, in the UHF mil air band. Whilst the spurii can be detected
 faintly
with no cables attached to the KX3, when I attach certain cables, the
 strength
of the spurii increase, most notably the I/Q cable, which causes (what
 passes
for) the S-meter on the scanner to fully deflect. Connecting an antenna to
 the
KX3 doesn't seem to have any effect.

The other day I noticed that my scanner had stopped on a locally used UHF
channel that was exactly 100 times the frequency in the 80m band that I was
listening to. Today I have noticed that listening on 7.08Mhz SSB, my
 scanners
stop on 389.4Mhz, which seems to be the 55th harmonic of the KX3's dial
 frequency.

This is affecting my AOR-8600mk2 and IC-R20. Unfortunately, I've also been
developing a hybrid spectrum sensing scanner (called Onsense), that uses a
HackRF to sample the mil air band and tune in my AOR-8600mk2 to the
 strongest
signal detected. I find that I am constantly having to add frequencies to
Onsense's blacklist as I tune my KX3. This isn't a good situation to be
 in.

I already have a ferrite on the I/Q cable, but that doesn't help. When I
 enable
the 8kHz shift on the KX3, the previously detected spurii goes away.
  Whether it
goes entirely or not, I don't know, it may just shift to another frequency
 that
isn't being scanned. The RX Isolation filter is enabled.

Is anyone else having similar problems? Is this normal for a KX3? Is there
anything I might try to mitigate this?

 Cheers,

 Darren, G0HWW

reading of something like 49.379990. Then after running for several
minutes it starts dropping in frequency to something more like
49.32. It is still wildly fluctuating. If I connect the 10MHz output
of my Trimble Thunderbolt GPSDO to the counter it stays quite stable
 just below 10 MHz.

I re-soldered all the XG50 components and tried with both a metered
home-brew power supply and a 12v SLA battery with the same result
although re-soldering made a significant but not permanent improvement.

My lab is in my photographic darkroom which has an ambient temperature
of about 68 degrees F and the AC does blow across the work area.

Re: [Elecraft] KX3 2M Question

2014-05-19 Thread Phil Genera
http://www.elecraft.com/manual/KX3-2M%20FAQ.htm

*Q:* *What is the frequency stability?*

A: Standard (uncompensated) frequency stability is sufficient for FM or AM
operation. For CW/SSB/data use, it will be necessary to perform the KX3's
extended VFO temperature compensation procedure, providing typical
stability of about ± 10 Hz on 2 meters. This range is compatible with
170-Hz-shift RTTY but is not compatible with many narrowband modes,
including JT65 and WSPR.wband modes, including JT65 and WSPR.

I suppose that is where knowing the route in advance plays a helpful part.
We don't kibitz at every turn; we pretty much know where we are going in

Is it so different for bikes you need such a wide signal range? We do
multi state, multi day tours, so it it is not like we don't go anywhere, so
I am wondering why you need more range than what a 5 watt rig might provide.

Again...not being critical, genuinely curious about this. Might learn
