[Elecraft] Power setting for KPA500

2014-05-13 Thread Phil Theis

Greetings,
It was my understanding that power settings on the K3 would track
separately when the KPA500 was off.
On my K3 if I set a power level with the 500 on, it stays when I turn it
off or put it on standby.

What am I missing in my settings to pull this off?

[Elecraft] Intermittent Audio on K3

2014-03-10 Thread Phil Theis

Some time ago I started losing audio while using my K3

I use Line in audio
The symptom goes as follows: talking along and next thing you know
there is no RF, further research shows that the radio is still in
transmit but there is no audio.

Put an adapter and scope on the audio input
Now I have absolutely assessed that there is audio going in to the
radio when this condition occurs.
Initially all that was needed to get going again was to un key and re
key the transmitter.
But within the last few weeks it now needs a power cycle of the radio
to regain audio.

This occurs about 30-90 seconds into a transmission.
My next step will be to take the radio apart and start re seating all
connections.
Another clue gained this morning on 75 meters was that when my audio
quits, the other station can still hear me very very faintly. Lending
credence to the audio theory.
I have never used the front panel mic on this radio, but I do have an
MH2 from K2 days that I might re purpose to plug into the front and
see what the results may be.
While I prepare for the next step in troubleshooting, has anyone else
ever seen this anomaly ?

Phil K3TUF

Hi again Wayne,
This does work. My only issue is that when I'm on 40 meters my
Microwave station is on 5760MHz and so on. I will need to do something
to alert my switching system that the radio is on HF. You have the
benefit of knowing that inside the radio :-)
Is there a signal I can find that would allow me to disable the rest of

2012-02-24 Thread Phil Theis
Hi,
I thought that there was a setting that would permit me to send cw while
listening in the SSB mode.
Is this possible? Seems to me I had this set up at one time, but cannot
find the right combination to do so now.
Thanks,

 Hi Phil,

Your subject line doesn't indicate a K3, but seems likely that's what
 the question is about.

 1. Go to CONFIG:CW WGHT
 2. Press the '1' key until you see SSB +CW
 3. Exit CONFIG:CW WGHT

This is in the Owner's Manual, on p54 (in Rev D5).

[Elecraft] Low Power on 160

2011-12-06 Thread Phil Theis
All bands produce full power except 160 meters.
K3 (352) into a Bird dummy load
When I tap TUNE the power is 7 watts.
When I increase the power knob the reading indicates increase in power,
but no actual power increase, then after a second the reading returns to
7 watts.
I hope there is something simple that I am missing.
Thanks for help.

[Elecraft] Using Transverters

2009-07-13 Thread Phil Theis
I use the K3 as an IF for transverters. This has worked well for some
time now. I had originally used the 10 watt model, but recently
upgraded by adding the 100 watt amplifier. Now the issue begins.
9 transverter slots are not enough for the bands I have; 50-24192MHz,
which is 11 bands with two more coming some day.
When I did not have the amplifier, there seemed to be no issue, I
programmed the logging software to use an offset and the K3 ended up on
28MHz as it usually does, but without the actual frequency display.
btw, thanks for the recent firmware mod to display the full frequency
momentarily: (1296, etc)
Now, with the amplifier, when I select one of the bands the radio seems
to automatically assume that I am going to transmit full power on 10 meters.
How can I instruct the radio to use the XVTR ports when not using trn1-9?
Also, I could use more trn's.
thanks

[Elecraft] 50MHz Transverter

2008-03-18 Thread Phil Theis
Given the following setup: K3 using transverters, with 50MHz transverter
set for xv1.
When I enter a 50MHz frequency via the com port the built in 50MHz

then I can successfully band up to 144 etc. If I enter a 144 frequency,
it immediately goes to xv2.
What would it take to get a serial command to go to a frequency in 50MHz
range to go directly to the xv1 selection?

Re: [Elecraft] K3 External Reference input

2008-02-22 Thread Phil Theis

That's great, just what I want to hear. Just so it's on the road map.
Didn't get that assurance from Gary.
Thanks so much Lyle. We can wait for something good.

Phil K3(352)TUF

Now that I have the K3 I'd like to connect it to my GPS Spectracom.

I want to slave it to my shack GPSDO, too -- and will! Some other parts
of the K3 system have a higher priority at present, but given time...

[Elecraft] ALC

2005-10-05 Thread Phil Theis
Where is the ALC line? I need it to attach to 144 mhz amplifier. I have K2
only, no 100 watt option. Use the transverter interface for rf output.
thanks
Phil
