Rick, have you tried to check the ribbon cable inside the rig? Wouldn't hurt to unplug & plug back in just in case it wasn't making a good connection. [Elecraft] KX-3 Powered speaker suggestions?
I have had very good luck with this speaker, if you can find it. I use 3 AA batteries which will last a very long time. [Elecraft] KX2 tx low power on 80M SSB
Dave, try doing the Calibrate Transmit Gain that is in the Utility under Calibration. I had that exact problem in the 80 & 10 meter band. Tech at Elecraft told me to do this. That fixed the problem. I had to do this several times & found it worked better on a old dummy load than it did on one I built from Elecraft. The old one was not exactly 1:1 on the 80 & 10 meter band. Dave, mine does the same thing on 10 meters. Wondering if a firmware change might fix it. Press Tune for a second & the problem goes away. [Elecraft] RF Cable From KX3 to KXPA 100
I use Belden RG-174 from KX3 to amp. No problems on loss because it is only 2 feet long. I use an RCA male connector on each end of RG-174 & that plugs into the RCA female to BNC adapter on the KX3 side & RCA female to PL-259 adapter on KXPA100. Just leave adapters on amp & KX3 which makes a very easy hookup. For portable use, I also use Belden RG-174, 25 feet, for the feeder to the antenna. [Elecraft] Giving Up
One thing I didn't see mention unless I missed it, is customer service. To me that weights a lot more than just the specs of the rig. I remember the days of National, Collins, Drake & the REAL Ten-Tec & you got a good rig with very excellent customer service. There are some really nice rigs on the market today, but Elecraft in my opinion is tops in customer service. They listen to their customers & do their best to satisfy them whether it be a firmware change or hardware fix. [Elecraft] Broken MH3
I bought a KX3 in April 2012 & never had a problem with the MH3. I bought a new KX2 last fall & when I went to remove the MH3 out of the soft case back in the spring it fell apart. All 3 posts were broken. Mic has never been dropped or handled rough. I took a picture & sent it to Elecraft & they replaced it with a new one. When I received the new one I backed the 3 screws then tighten them so they were just touching the case. Don't know if they were tightened too tight or weak plastic posts. Hi Peter, I was using a different laptop with a its own mail app & for some reason the text didn't show up. I just sent Michael an email with the info he needed to get his KX2 to work on 10 meters. [Elecraft] KXPA 100 Hi Dissipation Fault on 15 Meters
I tried this with a KX3, serial # 050, & a KX2 using a OCF & 2 element HyGain beam also dummy load & did not experience fault on 15 meters. Output was 100 watts on each antenna & dummy load. No antenna tuner was used as antennas are resonant. Serial # of KXPA100 is 1296.
