[Elecraft] KIOB

2015-12-16 Thread Richard - HB9ANM

Don is right as usual. I, too, am very happy with my three USB interfaces
(K3, KPA500 and digital PTT), external sound card and 7-port USB hub.

Although I upgraded my two K3’s with a total of four KSYN3A’s and two
KXV3B’s, I decided not to order the KIO3B which “Eliminates need for
PC soundcard and cables”, i.e. would make all that stuff, which cost
about twice as much as one KIOB, “obsolete”.

YMMV...

[Elecraft] Question re new KXV3B

2015-09-22 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
According to some comments, the new KXV3B seems to be quite an
improvement on 6m.

As far as i know, no comment has been made on the difference on 10/12m.
Can anyone comment on the performance on 10/12m?
I seldom work 6m, mostly DX. And two fellow hams here in HB9 are interested.
Thanks in advance.

[Elecraft] New KX3 can no longer be powered on - FIXED!

2014-12-28 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
Thanks, Don. That was spot on! Peter was using a Rig Runner and a cable
(with a PowerPole connector) with a 2.5 mm plug on the KX3 side… He
wanted to spare the standard power cable for portable operation. Now
everything is OK and he is enjoying his new KX3.

And thanks to all who responded either by e-mail or on the Reflector!

tnx, vy 73 es hny!

[Elecraft] New KX3 can no longer be powered on

2014-12-27 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
My friend Peter HB9AAZ received his KX3 four days ago. It worked fine,
RX and TX without problems. Suddenly, pressing XMIT switched it off
completely and now it cannot be powered on again.

And yes, a dummy load was connected to it.

What could have happened? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Elecraft] Strange K3 & KPA500 Issues fixed with a longer coax cable?

2014-11-19 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
Well, this is surprising, to say the least. Inasmuch as it seems to have
happened in several places. I normally don't post remarks of the
"no-problem-here" sort but I don't think this has anything to do with
RFI or inductance. Neither are ferrite chokes likely to solve the
problem. My K3->KPA500 cable is only 65 cm (26") long (the only piece of
RG58 in my setup) but nobody mentioned any distortion.

BTW: Both the K3 AND the KPA500 are earthed (grounded, if you prefer)
separately to a common earth... I mean: grounding point, as well as the
(manual) tuner, the SteppIR controller, etc.

If a longer cable can solve the problem, it's OK but the main question
(the "WHY?") remains unanswered... Strange, indeed.

[Elecraft] temperature sensors and "convert" -- totally off topic

2014-06-22 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
Now this is really way off topic. Yes, any rig requires a learning
curve... But math? And furlongs?

This has very little to do with Elecraft!
Just wait until Eric gets back home after the weekend, I can hear him
saying::

"Folks, it's time to end this thread..."

Re: [Elecraft] KPA-500 fan noise

2014-06-02 Thread Richard - HB9ANM
If you set fan speed to Level 1 in the first place, it will run
continuously and avoid wide temperature variations.
I can work pileups in RTTY at 500W and the fan goes into Level 2 on rare
occasions and for a short time only.
IMHO, the NORmal setting is not the best one. Level 1 (constant) is very
quiet and a better choice to protect the Mosfets.
